Well, the grill is "slightly" off  I suppose I could fiberglass the top and sides... or I could flat black the whole car... \ At least the radiator is slightly less obnoxious now:
Thanks Michael! I could have went 3-4" further back, but I want to leave room behind the radiator for pull fans or possibly an intercooler in the future... possibly. I also wanted to retain the hood latch.
Is the hood latch fitting with the radiator where it is? I got that intake on by the way, took an afternoon of cutting and fitting that MAF sensor and assortment of hoses ha
Yessir! Hood closes completely with no interference. Latch is 100% functional... although it will probably get pretty hot lol. Glad to hear you got the intake on. Hope to see you and the car out at some meets.
who needs a hood latch? You should drill some holes and put in some hood pins, it would add at least 5hp! Plus you could make more room for the intercooler like this...
Knock sensor shipped yesterday. Just waiting on the plugs then plan to finally drop the motor in Friday. In the meantime, started painting. Like the one masked off fog light? Someone at some point decided to replace the stock bolts with round machine screws front bumper is going to need to be sanded and repainted eventually. Rear bumper turned out better: Trunk, wing, and fenders are next. Then rear quarters up through the a-pillars. Then pull the doors and do the doors and jambs. Since it's 1 piece 1 weekend at a time as if time allows... I'd be surprised if it's done within a month lol
Are you repainting it flat black or is that just the primer? There's a flat black RS I see in Maple Grove and it looks awesome
Flat black. If it turns out too streaky I'll grab a few cans of 3m underbody coating and make it "textured flat black"
LOL! Looks like good progress so far. I am excited to see this car in person again. I also agree that this needs turbos. you cannot have 1 H6-TT and one NA H6. They must match, so either NA the Porsche, twin turbo the GC, or get a GT3 RS. This would also be acceptable ;-) View attachment 22204
It looks like they moved the trans back about 8" too. I wonder what the front suspension and steering systems look like. Does anyone have a close up picture and more importantly, dimensions for the OEM "2.5RS" trunk badge?
Sweet. Thanks! Do you have the wing decal too? It's different from the trunk badge. I have a few ideas for wheel color, light color and want to try to get everything, including the decals to match.
I would have to see, but I do have 2 different files here, one of them has an outlined "RS" and the other is solid. If anything I can make it look correct with some adjustments.
Speed holes... weight reduction. flat blacked the fenders yesterday. Pics as soon as I can find my TiC fender braces. Might do the hood, roof, trunk and rear quarters throughout the week. Not looking forward to doing the doors/jambs.
loln Yup, that's why I went with flat black. No need to mask the trim and touch-ups are a quick rattle can spray. Man, this thing is gonna look UUUUUUGLY  Sweeeeeeeet! The spark plugs should be here Thursday. So with any luck the motor should finally be in Friday night. Hopefully I can drive it down in a few weeks so we can tinker with exhaust, lower radiator guard, cage, etc...
So, with all of this cage and prep work, are you going to join the stage rally series, or stick with rallycross?
haha, yes... an OLDER car than you two not that mine is near being on the road either. hahahahaaaaaaa stupid datsun.
Dan, you got me researching supercharger set-ups now... you are an evil evil man. Prep work? That implies I have some kind of goal in mind  I like modifying, testing, breaking, fixing, etc... it's the journey, rather than the destination that keeps me interested. I'll run it in whatever I can afford, qualify for, and fits my schedule. If you're asking about the Rally America series, the motor is not legal for open light class (2.5L NA limit, I believe) so I definitely won't be running it at any of those events.
4 hours of very productive work tonight with a great deal of help from Fuji and Thunderdan. We worked at a pretty good pace considering how tired I was after a full work day and a Twins game. We even stopped to run over to Fuji's to pick up an alignment pin and almost appeared in an episode of cops. Got the plugs and coilpacks installed, installed the pretty new flywheel/clutch/pressure plate, cut some more parts that will need to be reinforced later, and got the motor in. Oooh, shiny! Can't believe I spent more on this than I did on the motor/ecu/harness: OMNOMNOM This part would have been a pain in the ass without Master Fuji's wisdom. I decided to cut rather than drop the trans. I need to reinforce the lower support anyway, so now I have an excuse to redo and beef up the whole front end. Jackie Chan approves this message: Great Success! Bonus video footage to come.
Saw the car today while I was stopping by to grab some plants (After years of trying we now have Huan Hostas!) And the car looks good. Very tight fit in that engine compartment.
It was a dowel pin. For the clutch I just used the ACT alignment tool that came with the clutch kit. Picked up a couple valuable tips from Fuji on clutch install too! Mark, glad you didn't get sniped again this year lol
Pulled the wing off, plugged the holes, and bondoed some low spots in the trunk. Also got a couple base coats on the doors and rear quarters. Just need to finish the trunk, do the roof, and then the jambs.
Sweet! I still need to let the trunk cure. Hopefull I'll have time after work tmw to sand it down then primer, paint, and clear. Should be ready for a decal by this weekend anyhow. No rush tho since I won't have much time to work on the motor this week. I'm thinking "3.3" in deep blood red (reflective prefered but non-reflective is fine) and the "RS" in flat gunmetal. That should match both future wheel colors
reflective is fine, it is easier to use on bigger things like that. LMK when you need it done and we'll get it to you.
We will likely have to get the vinyl for the "gunmetal" but I believe we have reflective red, though I don't know if it is 'deep blood red' we'll have to see what's available and order if necessary.
Got some CRITICAL work done today thanks to TSTRBOY2004! Not only did he leave the fort and drive all the way up from the middle of nowhere, but I'm convinced he made the front end of the car stronger than it was from the factory . I wouldn't know anything about it, but I can't imagine welding 3 different thickness metals together is an easy task! The best thing about having someone with skills work on your car is you get to see how bad you are how much room you have to grow. I'm amazed that he can cut 3 complex pieces in the time it takes me to make 2 simple cuts  We decided to box the lower frame support that I had to cut for clearance for the lower radiator hose. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. I had my doubts as soon as I started cutting it a couple weeks ago. Somehow everything is still lining up! Let's hope I can keep it that way:hsugh: If the weather holds up, more to come tomorrow.
man those welds look like Fobia's old ones ha ha ha ha ah.. lets just say it is tough to weld on such thin metal, that has paint, rust and even thinner due to grinding ha ha.. hey.. but it works... and thats why we have grinding wheels and paint... (sad thing it doesnt reflect my 9mths of weld schooling ah ah ha) My ballsack really enjoyed the weld blob too FYI cant wait to see this thing running and go for a ride.. after the porsche of course
Story of my life with my project. Welder settings are everything. Still doesn't account for contamination due to paint you can't get at.
