I don't even bother when she offers to let me use her garage spot overnight anymore. I just avoid it altogether lol. So 1 step forward, 2 steps back Had a free hour or 2 so I pulled the car into the garage to bolt up the exhaust. Got the headers bolted up and surprisingly I was able to bolt up the svx y-pipe. Installed the 02 sensors and went to move the car back. The starter didn't click over again. Check grounds, wiring, etc and still nothing. Went to test the battery and found out my multimeter is borked... sweet. Maybe tomorrow I can get everything sorted.
Lookin good Sheen! I'm hoping you get it done by the rally-x. Would love to see it in person and racing!
Adventures in power steering land! Well got 2 steps forward and only 1 step back today lolz Fixed the starter with a hammer :dunno: hasn't been acting up for the last 5-6 starts. Decided to hook up the taller and wider RS ps pump rather than get custom lines cut. Hopefully this will help someone else out in the future. I couldn't find any decent info on this issue so here goes! The RS pump and reservoir fit! kinda... ok, maybe not... at all: Don't mind the upper rad hose, that'll be fixed next. The three front bolts are spaced differently, so I ovaled out the SVX mounting bracket to accept the RS pump: The pulley is off a little too, it sits too far forward, so washers between the mounting bracket and pump to move the pulley back towards the block will have to do: Of course the hood needs to be modified: But hey it works! The hood does have a slightly tougher time closing now, so I'll be working on that and possibly going with pins. Once the rain lets up, I'll get some video footage going. Sounds much better with headers and 2 cats on it. The EGR system is still unbolted, so it's slightly louder than it should be right now.
lol TORQUEZ! I think I need a new fuel pump and I definitely need to connect the egr valve from the block to the manifold. I think I have an sti fuel pump laying around somewhere... maybe I'll work on that Friday. Don't mind the rattle, that's the exhaust flange from the svx resonator pipe wanting to rattle free. What do I love most about Subaru ownership? It keeps me up to date on my tetanus shots. 20 minute fuel pump install. Runs better but still idles low. Gonna call it a night but plan to get the egr system hooked up and the idle raised this weekend. Hopefully get the signal modulator from Chuxticles soon and call it good for now
Got the egr system hooked up... mostly. Enough that it runs smoothly and isn't too ridiculously loud now. Re-routed some vacuum hoses. Raised the idle with a ziptie. Also made an intake adapter lol Fired it up and took it around the block a few times. Drives great and sounds angry. Water temp shot way up a block from the house so I'll have to dig into that tomorrow. I'm guessing stuck tstat or water pump but I suppose it could be the lack of fans... I wouldn't expect the temps to get that high in a quarter mile although it was a lot of stop and go and under 30mph :dunno:
Got the cooling system issue figured out. Bypassing the heater core for now. Got a few misc things buttoned up and took it for a quick test run. Yay no more overheating! quick 1st-3rd run. Currently running headers into the cat pipe that ends somewhere around the shift boot. Needs a resonator or 2 and a muffler. Sorry for another shaky phone vid lol
Can you use washers to straiten out the PS pump? You'll tear it up eventually. I like how the belt says made in mexico all over it, lol. It sounds like sects BTW.
Sounds amazing!! I bet with the radiator as low as it is, it'll be a PITA to burp entirely. they make a cap to put in-line with the heater hoses to flush the system, one of those might be a huge help.
Yeah, the washers I have in there now get it pretty darn close. I could probably get it a bit closer but I'm not too worried. If it pops I'll get the stock feed line modified to fit the svx pump (like I should have from the beginning lol). Thanks! You have to hear it in person, tho. Obscenely loud and just a bit too raspy... add in the slip joint flange thing rattling around and the belt squeal and it's a symphony of fail lol. Hopefully I can at least get a resonator on there in time for firestone this week. It was kinda a pain... especially with no working floor jack at the moment lol. The prestone flush kit that hooks up to a garden hose? I think I have one of those laying around, but the hvac fans aren't even kicking on right now so I'll probably troubleshoot those first before flushing and hooking the hoses back into the heater core.
If you need longer bolts you can come by and dig through my inventory. As far as the noise goes, I don't here any. All I hear is pron. \ EFI Logics rings a bell......
meh build a house with a workshop as your garage that would fit 4 cars in with none of the tools and crap, and build her her own 2 car garage... ha ha.. somehow her car ends up in mine in winter.. maybe due to mine being heated
Yeah, you do have the tits garage. I want it in town though. With two lifts and more room for machine shop equipment. I need a Bridgeport with an indexable rotary table, and an engine lathe. Possibly a 3 axis cnc as well. Among other little thing like a parts washer, etc.
Well, I finally got that issue buttoned up today. Thanks for sending me the signal modulator, Chux! At this point I'd be happy with a well lit and insulated ceiling, running water, cable, and a drain... all doable but too much $$$. Need to turn the 1 season screened in patio into a 4 season walled in greenroom before I do any more work to the garage methinks. Supercharged EZ30R in a lifted Baja. Snow plow in front, winch in back, "Mr. Plow" on the sides.
Planning on it! I need to get the PS/alt belt back on it before I kill the battery. Hopefully it'll make it home from work today.
Yeah I was running late this morning and was a little hungover still... noticed the heavy steering and remembered that I took off the ac and ps the other night but didn't get around to lining the ps pump and belt back up. Luckily it is a really short commute. :dunno: I will be loling and fmling if this car ends up failing due to something as dumb as this!
The RS should have come stock like this... 3.3 H6, gold BBS, 245/40/17 re-01r's! Dents and overflush radiator as a dealer installed option. Thanks for letting me borrow the wheels/tires Tall Dan!
I was considering black and orange or black and red. I have a set of 06-07 wrx wheels that oughta look pretty decent on there. So I drove out to the middle of nowhere and had Nate work his magic again. He had a wrx/wti midpipe laying around so he connected that to the svx y-pipe on one end and my gutted STi axleback (from here http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php/31071-DIY-gutted-STi-axleback?highlight=diy+gutted) on the other... slight mismatch: but close enough to work: and work WELL I might add! Sounds fantastic! Quiet at idle and cruise and just plain angry at WOT. I little raspy, but nothing I can't live with. No drone at 70mph (3100rpm) either. I'll see if I can get another short 1st-3rd clip together tonight. Nate also welded up a little bash guard for my radiator that sticks an inch below the bumper beam. Now all I have to do is figure out if it's my clutch slave, master, or line that's borked. I'll probably end up overnighting them (from Japan) so I can have the car ready for (racewars) next weekend.
^^^and sounds fantastic now too! Here's a quick vid of 2nd gear and half of 3rd with the new exhaust: idle and free rev: Clutch is really acting up now so I'll have to order up parts first thing Monday. I also hear a hissing noise under the intake mani and it smells like rotten eggs... I'm guessing one of those emissions hoses popped off... or maybe my superglue finally fatigued and failed lol
Ha, Nate actually finished my exhaust on my El Camino yesterday. I forgot about the air tube for the catalytic converter, so that rattles a bit at certain RPMs. Nothing a Ziptie can't fix.
was telling Sheen how I was thinking an older Forester with a h-6 conversion would rock.. especially after taking it for a drive out on the gravel road... didnt matter what gear I was in it would just start spinning and sliding effortlessly
It sounds so much better than when we took it out for a spin the other day!:yumyum: I mean, I like loud exhausts and all... Nate, you're still good with your pipe I see.
Lmao. Is that your new shop set up at the house in the pics? I need to make it down there to check out the digs sometime.
Do it! It's pretty easy now that it's been a few years since the first swap and almost everything is documented. Here, I went out just now and made a video just for you. This could be the sound you hear merging everyday
Huh, well I don't know how I came out of that one alive... between almost shocking myself to death while grounding out the starter, almost catching myself on fire with a propane torch, almost igniting a puddle of brake fluid, and almost shooting myself after struggling with a flare nut for 15 minutes, I somehow got a new clutch master cylinder installed. If this is what the outer seal looks like, I can't imagine how chewed up the inner is. I'll eventually install the new clutch slave and lines as well (thanks Brian and 3rik!), but that's enough dinking around for now. I still have the rotten egg smell but I think I know which hose it is. That'll have to wait till tomorrow or Friday night. I might think about hacking up the stock radiator fans and stuffing at least one in there for racewars (rallyx) this weekend.
Did you get to realign the pulleys so the belt doesn't scream? I remember that the most about your car on friday
Nope, haven't had the motivation to do that yet lol. I can't imagine it taking more than an hour and a few tries to bore out the back bracket and assemble the right set of washers tho... maybe tomorrow night if I skip the rallyfest fiasco.
