Wow, that looks bad ass! What the heck kit is that? Honestly I've always been a function over form kind of guy. Most of the time seeing body kits leaves a bad taste in my mouth because 1) they almost never look good, at least the ones I see on the street, & 2) if they put the amount of money they spent on their body kit under the hood instead, they'd have one hell of a fast car. In this case, I need to make some wider tires fit. I have the winter to save up some cash/open up some credit. Rims, tires, & rotors are going to run me a few G's. I'd love to throw a couple thousand dollar body kit on there to make em fit and get some aesthetic benenfits as well, but I'm not sure I can come up with the cash in time for next spring's track days. Maybe after my long not so tropical vacation next year, but between now and spring, I don't think a body kit will happen. Maybe I'll get em and we'll have to put some work into it over the winter to make them fit. I just don't want to get something that there's no way they'll fit.
I think they are Karlton flares. I think they look great with meaty tires, but I think they're just about impossible to find now. On your body style I would probably just get 17x9's for now and put some 265's on them. Getting anything bigger to fit is going to be considerable work.
RavSpec is setting up a group buy for me! I'm waiting to see the thread on NASIOC vendor classifieds... The previous group buy was for 5x100's, and apparently the offset to clear our brembos is custom, as is "Subaru Gold". Rays will make these 17x9's in 5x114 if they have 20 rims (5 sets) committed to. RavSpec said they'll stock 2 sets, I have one set claimed, so we just need two more. Hit em up if you're interested, a PM on NASIOC should do.
They have black in stock, but the +38 offset won't clear brembo's. He said if you used a 3mm spacer it would be ok. The customs runs are for +35. I'm assuming the GB will be for the same price, but I haven't seen the thread yet. He quoted me 1399+ 150 shipping for the black 17x9 +38's they had in stock.
Group Buy: RAYS Gramslight 57DR - 17x9.0 +35mm 5x114 (Aggressive Face) $1399.0 + Shipping (1) Clear Brembo Caliper, no spacers required. Original spec was 38mm and we custom these to 35mm for clearance. (2) Concave Face (3) Custom Color - SUBARU GOLD color (from factory) Quote: This particular spec are custom offset made specifically to clear Brembo caliper and fits on 5x114 STI. Original spec was 38mm and will not clear Brembo. Don't miss a chance to own an exclusive set of wheel !! Only limited sets available. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2414793 Hit em up!
I thought this was kind of cool. I wanted to get it to match my Seibon trunk, but seeing as it's a couple years old, it's got some fade. Needless to say, they don't match Maybe I'll get the trunk lid wrapped the same...
Borrowed these pics from Fuji. Also, word back from MPS the other day: "yes. I spoke with him a few days ago. He is working on yours. " I'll post those pics as soon as I get the block back.
Here goes nothing: http://t3hclap.com/archives/49 I need to fit 265's under there with a +38 offset. Goal is only -1 camber for the street since I'll be running pretty soft rubber. I've seen what excessive camber will do to a soft tire... I'll post pics of the carnage for you guys, hopefully I won't have to go too far. btw, group buy isn't looking good so I'm going with these in 18x9.5: (+22 shown, I'll have +38) Thinking R888's and hoping they last until my "vacation" this summer. I need to get at least one road course day in and one visit to cedar falls or similar as well before I take off.
I always liked hose those looked! Good luck with the modification. FYI - I ran Star Specs at -2.5 deg camber all last season and there wasn't any excessive camber wear. I know the R888's are softer, but it's just a point of reference. I wouldn't be too worried about going a little more than -1 to make them fit.
I was very nervous to roll the fenders on my last wagon, but when my 225's rubbed I had to. It really wasn't bad though - I took my time, went slow, used the proper amount of heat, and they turned out very well with no cracking, pealing, bubbling, etc. Yours might be a bit more interesting because of those trim pieces, but put in the time, and it will be worth it! As Ben referred to his camber, I also ran -3 degrees in the front and -1.5 in the rear on star specs last year, and I did not notice any uneven camber wear at all...although the car spent a lot of time at autox. If you're running that much on your DD, it might be a different story. Anyway, I hope to see this out at BIR on the road course this year...most likely from my rearview mirror...and then very quickly out of the front windshield
Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I'm running camber plates front & rear on my BC coilovers, and have been using a FasTrax camber guage which makes adjustments quick and easy. Ideally I'd run around the streets w/less camber and put it where I want when I get to the track. We'll see how close it is and what kind of a difference camber is going to make on fitment. I don't have the ride height that low so I'm hoping it won't be too bad. I'll definitely be at BIR this year, probably in June. A buddy I work with is doing the slowpokes event on June 2nd which is a Sunday so I might do that. May 31st and the June performance driving school dates might work too. If all goes as planned I'll be the guy ripping through the straights, melting my rotors, and oversteering every corner, with embarrassingly slow lap times
Is sideways an angle? J/k, I will work on it! Hopefully I can get a couple events in, my season will unfortunately be over half way through.
God damn, I hope I get to see some of these sick subies out, I always hear they are out when I am but I never get to see them!

Those are no NBA hands are they lol Now you can dump the clutch, load the power and expect less wheel spin, so she thinks lol
Almost 10.5" of rubber! That's a lot of meat! (that's what she said) Yeah I have a feeling I'm going to learn quickly that no matter what tire you use, it still all comes down to driving.
I stand corrected, tape measure shows a full 11" width for the 265 r888's. Here's what it looks like when I push the tire all the way against the coilover: Looks like I have some work to do. I'm not quite sure how much travel I get in the suspension, but that would definitely suck to have the fender tee off on the tire...and hopefully a +38 offset will be enough to keep these things off my coilovers.
