This seems like something I should just know, but I don't. What kind of coolant is best for our Subies?

In case it matters, I have a 2004 WRX 2.0L.

LOL... yeah, that's a good kind.

Seriously, though... I don't feel like I know what to look for when going to the auto parts store, and I feel kinda stupid about it. What should I be looking for?

Doesn't Subaru make a special coolant for our cars?

OP are you doing a flush or adding to your current coolant?

Yes Subaru does, BLUE coolant is premixed so you don't have to worry about ratios. <3 Subaru coolant

    EDIT: thanks awdprez

Nope, its not pre-mixed! The only pre mixed is the new Blue coolant.

It's just a random question, in case I have to do a flush someday... so top-up in the mean time.

So this Blue coolant... available at Napa / O'Reilly / etc.? Or do I have to go to Subaru?

Subaru has two kinds of coolant, the regular stuff and then the "super" coolant - which is premixed. I've always been told to use Subaru coolant with the conditioner instead of cheap off the shelf coolant.

    Awesome. Thanks!

That probably means there's a debate somewhere on one of the forums about whether it actually matters.

The reason I ask, is I have been told by those wiser than me that you shouldn't mix Subaru coolant with general coolant. I just went with that and picked up some stuff from Subaru for my top off. However, I am pretty sure my 09 runs different coolant than what you have. Either way, I trust the person who told me that. If I were you I would bite the bullet (pay more) and keep it the same.

When I changed to the super coolant, my fuel mileage improved, my piston slap disappeared, my radio player better music, and my wife looked hotter.

I am running "readymix" coolant. It has a cute little polar bear on the jug and is doing just fine with my many powers ;)

Still loving that Espelir exhaust? Or are you on to something else by now?
