Always run my tires at 40psi too. I've sort of always tried to maximize the pressure to just under where they'd balloon up. I can't say I've never had complaints with sport use, and wear has been largely even. I know many folks do run lower pressures for rally-x. Ideal traction will depend on the surface, but a difference in psi isn't a vast decider in the end outcome. It's more just a small part that you can fine tune to optimize.
Sorry to get in on this late. Are you looking to share a car with someone else as far as a dual driver situation (like the normal rallycrosses)? Or just riding along on one of the runs? If it's the first one, I would advise against it. Mainly because it cuts your seat time in half for learning purposes. If it's the second one, you can have someone with you in the car as long as they are in the front passenger seat with an approved helmet and they have signed the waiver. This is a school, not a rallycross. Things are a little different in format on this one. We are not competing during this. It's mainly for your benefit as a driver.
Thank you! MNSOC President Mark Utecht did a great job leading the session tonight covering all basic techniques for Rally Cross. Thanks! Now time to work on those techniques in the snow tomorrow!
My car won't build boost, and my wheels are so off balance from caked snow and dirt that I could only go 60 the whole way home, but it was very worth it. I had a great time! Thanks to everyone who planned and ran this.
Big thanks to all the instructors and other volunteers, that was an awesome time. I think that by the end of the day I was getting the concept of the flick, although I was not able to execute it every time. This was hugely different from autocross and I hope to come out to some more events now that I have some tires that will work. I just have to remember to bring something to clean out my wheels, 55 the whole way home was not much fun...
Thanks everyone!! I'm glad you guys had fun and learned something new. I have to say, flicking the car at speed on that big 180 was a ton of fun!!!! And every time I drive my little white Impreza at a Rally Cross event I fall in love with it again...it's just soo much fun to drive! I can't wait to do it again! More importantly, I'd like to give a special thank you to all the instructors and safety staff for helping me bring this event together. I know standing around all day making sure everyone is safe OR jumping from car to car as an instructor is actually a lot of work! I truly appreciate the time and energy each one of you put into this school. Thank you!!!!! FEEDBACK: Any feedback would be welcome. The only way we'll learn how to improve future events is feedback. Where can we improve? What did you like?
Again, thank you. However, it would have been nice to have it timed. That way you can actually see what strategies make you faster and what makes you slower. Also, I felt like most of the course was just slaloms, It would have been nice to have more sweeping turns.
unfortunately with the space we had available to us more sweepers were not practical. I hope everyone had fun today and learned a lot! I saw great improvement from everyone today. Thanks again to all those who let me drive their cars today!
I had an awesome time, thanks to all of the operators and instructors for putting on an awesome event. I was able to make run after run without doing any course work. I felt guilty about that. (I think I got away with crushing a couple cones too, I owe you all) I also had some balance issues with caked snow in the wheels. I had to stop three times and jab it out of the wheels with a screw driver before it was ok. Small price to pay I say! I have some pics that will grab off my camera here soon. Again, Thanks to all the event staff for and awesome time, THANKS!
cool, good times. fun to drive some different cars and ride with better drivers in my own car. Kelly (cold girl taking pics today) will be posting some pics later this week hopefully. thanks instructors!
Had so much fun and learned a ton. Thanks for all of the instructors' help and being patient with me. Carl, thanks for driving my car, I learned a lot from your run. I really hope you guys have events during winter because I can't wait for more.
no, it will be similar to what we did for the rallycross school. I believe it will be done on a frozen lake this year
had an awesome time tons of seat time too!! whens the rallyX season start now???? Instructors thanks for all the help and putting up with the snow and cold weather everyone great job!
haha, ninja edit. Anyway, wish i could have made it. With getting hurt Friday night snowboarding, Im glad I didnt sign up. andway, im In for pics!
Yes they did!!!! ...and I have to give you the award for the biggest smiles! Everytime you drove by all I could see in the car was your smile!
No, it will be a car control and accident avoidance class. It will be instructional, rather than competitive. Lmao! Kurt, I think he's hitting on you!
You never called. I didn't have internet access Friday night so couldn't sign up in time. It's ok tho, I was sick most of the weekend anyway.
I think I cleaned a small island worth of dirt out of my rear bumper last night when washing it. The whole underside of my car was coated in dirt, mud, and snow. I parked in my garage and let it melt for a while before going to wash it and there was a stream of brown water flowing from my car to the nearest drain.
I'd like to thank the instructors and the organizers for putting this on. I had an amazing time yesterday and learned a ton of info. It was especially great to get different info from different instructors and try out lots of things rather than just one technique. I was doing great until my last run and decided to bury the wagon, but I was able to get out on my own It looks like we got pictures of everyones car but mine so far. It was great to see the red outnumber the blue by a very healthy margin
hey after the school, the RS had a significant shimy at 70 MPH, but you can kinda feel it at slower speeds (down to 30). i've washed it already so i don't think there is any mud/snow packed in places.
wash it more, seriously if you didnt do it at a self serve place with a wand you didnt get everything. get quarters (lots) and if you are hard core you bring a small floor jack and get it clean. quotedthewrongpersonohwell
I had super caked on stuff in my wheels, ice hard on the inside. I had to bust it up with a screwdriver to get it off.
I am so glad that I've got access to a heated spot with a pressure washer. I parked at the station last night and spent an hour or so cleaning the car. When I got done, I'm guessing the car was a good 50 lbs lighter and the abnormal noises I was hearing cleared right up.
Anybody know a self serve car wash place close to Woodbury? My car was shaking like crazy on highway this morning.
try giving a call to one of these places... http://www.dexknows.com/local/automotive/automotive_services/car_wash/geo/c-woodbury-mn/
The stuff caked on my wheels was literally like concrete. I ran it thru an automatic wash, just loosened it up a bit, then I had to spray them out very thoroughly with a hose for about 30 mins to get them all cleaned up.
There's a good self serve wash in Inver Grove Heights. It's right down the road from my house. Off of Cahill and 64th I believe. Behind Napa and across from Ace Hardware.
i need to find a self-serve in the NW metro...any clues? searching and dex suck at figuring this one out because most of those places don't even have a phone - it's like google-ing a pop machine
