Not to be a debbie downer, but excessive e-braking is going to kill your center differential. VCD's don't like that too much
doesn't really matter the surface. Anytime you lock up the rear wheels while the fronts continue to rotate...that is an issue that can eventually cause problems for the center differential. People get away with doing it and sometimes forever, but it can lead to a major breakdown.... I would love to be able to pull the handle and force the rearend to rotate that much easier, but I'm personally scared to do it soooo i revert to using the throttle and steering to produce the same type of results.
Well, I have to say that for once I'm really glad I own a DSM. Center diff safety recall FTW!
I think I might have used it couple times since I got my Subaru. I usually shift down and floor it to get my rear loose.
Because I'll break something else. Beating it up on the street is one thing... A field is completely different. It'll get a shakedown sometime soon, but that'll likely be it. I really don't want to risk my DD. I'll pick up a beater eventually. But until then, co-driving!
meh... I do it a lot.. did in my other car form 900miles... had 75K when I sold it and no issues that I knew of...
Well, you know me Nate, i've been yankin it for quite some time now! Mark said that it looked as if the VCD function was not working at the RallyX school event.:dunno:
Well, I've been thinking, and I think it may have just been the open front diff making me think the front wasn't spinning. The effectiveness of your e-brake seems to point towards the center diff being fairly loose, at any rate.
^Loose diffs..loose lugs, aw man she's falling apart! 165,000 and she's just getting broken in! Lol. And btw, my avatar pic is of me pulling hotcarl out of a snowbank at the ice races! lullz.
I drive my DD at all the events but that is actually a good way to look at it. Don't race it if you cant afford to fix it.
I drove my DD for the first couple of seasons, then I got the SE-R. Driving the SE-R and not having to worry about hurting the DD did help me become more aggressive and faster (two don't necessarily go together). That said, I have never, in 6 years of RallyCross not been able to drive the car home.
^^^^ Haha, exactly. I took my WRX to BIR this past summer and I didn't have too much fun as I was super scared that I was gonna meet a wall. Def a good thing to keep in mind if I'm going to be doing any kind of performance driving in my DD. Hopefully soon I'll be able to change that but, its all kinda up in the air at this point. :emo:
