Also, just pulled the piston out of cylinder 1, it has the same improper wear marks forming in the pin bosses. Not as much galling but I'm sure it would have gotten there eventually. All of these parts will be available for view at my garage for a limited time. Because if nobody buys that EJ22T case from me, I'm going to make it into a coffee table.
What are the power goals for this EJ257? I assume you will be using your GT35R. just curious cause i have heard some talk that mahle isnt the way to go if you want 500+hp. now this isnt first hand but people on RS25 are speculating that the alloy mahle uses is softer and while running quieter isnt prime for bookoo HP. ^ take pics pls.
Mahle was used in the 2000 Subaru rally car engines I believe, and Porsche uses the same alloy forgings for their performance pistons. Also, remember, we have a nearly 500hp car in MPLS right now on Mahle pistons (Dream). They will be fine for my application yes, I will be running the same turbo and fuel system setup that I was before. The only difference this time around will be my shortblock. Factory fresh EJ257, with Mahle pistons and a .040 Cometic gasket. I have ARP headstuds also.
Yeah, while I think that the spin to the moon capabilities of the old 22t with the balanced crank would have been cool, he will actually be better off with the increased displacement of the ol' 257 and the extra grunt it will provide.
Yah i know dreams car is gonna be pushin 500 soon here. When i told people on rs25 that he was at 470s on mahles they were shocked. i was just passing on teh info i heard. BTW: what did you get your EJ22T crank balanced too?
Just did a little catching up on your build thread......BUMMER to hear!!! I know the feeling, even though I didn't build my v5 STi swap, I still worked through all the mechanical and dealt with alot of wiring install and what not. Bummer to hear, but its how it goes sometimes isn't it!!! I had 4 days of glory with my swap and then the head gasket went at about 7k and well I destroyed the internals pretty quick at that rate. Good luck, and Im sure you will have pentty of enjoyment with the larger displacement and the set up your working with should all make it worth the stress, $ and head scratching! -Matt
Yup, we take risks the very second we start modding. You gotta pay to play, and you gotta be prepared for the worst when you play. I'll bounce back, it isn't like the car is done forever. Just needs a new shortblock.
lmao! Yes, Shane you are correct. However it is actually beer cheese and we are intending to have it custom bored by mice.
I would have commented on that post, it would have been funny, but I don't think it is the right time for it yet...lol
