So jason, what is going on with? do you have a new motor? If so what? When you putting it back together??
Blah blah blah. You know what happened. EJ257 w/ Mahle's swapped in. Hit the dyno. Fueling issues. Car was running fine up to 5750rpms, then the AFRs would skyrocket to 12.5:1. Even after Clark took the gardenhose approach and set the Injector duty cycle to 97% to compensate for it. One of the techs at LSE and myself sort of agreed that it was likely the fuel pressure regulator. I picked one up from MTKA Morries Subaru the other day and finally got around to swapping it out. Short answer, yes, I think it fixed it. Tom will have to log AFRs to confirm, but I think I'm in the clear. Before swapping the FPR, I would get a knocklite flash at 6000rpms @ WOT. Now I can roll it out to 7000rpms with no knocklight indications. This is a good sign. Too afraid to stare at my rearview to see if there was black smoke from running super rich or not, but I'm assuming I spit something black out the back end. We will check AFR tomorrow to see what happens. Clark said he'd have no problem altering my map accordingly. Bad news though, it appears my Koyo radiator is leaking at the petcock. I need to pull it off and wrap it in teflon tape or something. I'm hoping that is where the leak is and not a crack in the welds (unlikely). Once the car cools down I'm going to give that a go.
??? What the hell are you trying to say ??? That makes no sense. I have a Koyo Radiator. Says Koyo on the top of it.
I had my petcock leak'in and we just tightened it...We just unbolted the subframe to get it from underneathe...Pull'in the whole radiator just plain suck...
I wouldn't pull the whole radiator, I'd likely just have someone plug the hole with their thumb while I wrap the petcock in teflon tape, then toss it back on there. I'd probably lose less than a gallon of coolant in the process that way. Otherwise, I can jack the car up on the passenger side to slosh as much coolant as possible away from the hole. I have the petcock as hand tight as I can get it, I may take a pair of needle nose and try turning it some more, but the petcock is plastic, so I don't want to wrench it off or break it in the process of doing this.
Checked the petcock, gave it a little 1/4 turn with the pliers. Leak fixed. Now it needs a bath And one of my downpipe bolts fell out again Those things are a pain in the ass to find.
Agreed. However, purchasing a new turbine housing FTL. And Jason, quit using those stupid allen bolts. Just get some real hex bolts that you can actually torque down.
Now I have misfires from 3k-4k WOT in 4th gear. Not sure if this is a over-fueling misfire though or not. I'm going to have Tom log AFRs tonight. I'm thinking the misfires might be caused by the increased fuel flow causing things to run too rich. But I could be wrong on that one. It feels kinda sluggish, so who knows.
Yeah, you can get rich misfires. Take it easy on the car until Clark sends you a new updated map -- you don't want to wash down the cylinder walls and have bad things happen.
That's why it is imperative to "cull the wheat from the chaff...CULL THE WHEAT FROM THE CHAAAAAAFF!!"
It's really ****ed up that I was talking about this build at work just a few days ago and here's the thread about it
Oh wow, there's a blast from the past. Bet you're kicking yourself for fawning over those clearly inferior PPG gearsets in hindsight eh?
Didn't some noob end up buying this car and trashing it? I forget the story now it was so damn long ago.
