15.2 psi @ 4000 rpms. Still pulls timing for whatever reason. There is no instance of knock at all. It just yanks timing. We're thinking possibly too rich. AFRs look normal. I'll keep you updated.

Ok, we think we have figured out the cause of this "phantom knock" that we're getting. This is merely a hunch, but hear me out.

The Perrin Downpipe is resting firmly against the transmission crossmember. It is also not attached to the J-bracket that the stock midpipe would usually hang from, it does have a hanger for this, it just wont meet up with it. The 'phantom' knock occurs at 3000rpms, regardless of load, throttle position, boost...whatever. Tom played with the fueling and such over and over and no matter what we still get this 'phantom' knock at 3000rpms. AFRs look perfect. Boost comes on nicely, everything runs very smoothly (aside from when the phantom knock retards timing 12 degrees). The thought here is that the frequency of the engine at 3000rpms, combined with the downpipe contacting the crossmember solidly, and the waggle of the end of the downpipe because it doesn't meet the catback properly, is causing the knock sensor to pick up a phantom knock and retards timing.

I'm going to call Nathan and see if he can get me in ASAP to fix this issue. I should know pretty much immediately if that fixed the problem as the knocklite should be clear at 3000 rpms if it fixed it.

    Currently at 380miles ;)
Oil consumption is non-existant, oil is still at the F, and it is nice and clean.
Coolant level is fine, and non-fluctuating.
Fuel consumption is crap, but that is more than likely due to me running 10.2:1 AFR at 4000rpms 15psi...and doing that every few minutes while Tom logs. No big deal...you don't make the big power till you stop giving a crap about gas mileage and the environment.

Updates will come as I get them.

Basicly, yes. Since Sunday was the first time I drove it really, I've put on 380 miles. We went to FlameBurger at 11:30 last night up off Central Ave on 694. And we took the long way around the cities.

Your best bet to get there is take 35E to HWY5/West 7th and go towards downtown. When you get to St. Clair, hang a left and then an immediate left on the next street/culdesac. It's at the end of the culdesac on the right.

Ok, then take a number. Tomorrow I'm heading down to Shakopee to have Nathan work his magic on my downpipe after I take a service call at around noon. And tonight I have to go drop off the A/C stuff to Zombie at GrimmSpeed. So, odds are, Thursday or Friday may have to suffice. If anything, I'll roll out there Friday afternoon to shoot the **** with you knuckleheads and then we can caravan to Firestone...Brian, you WILL attend...no goddamned wings for you. Tell Greg he can take a raincheck.

Yup, the whole weird "phantom knock" is rather odd. It's always in the same rev and load range while in vacuum and in closed loop fueling (ie, 14.7:1) and is rather random.

It will be interesting to see what happens after the clankywanky pos Perrin downpipe gets fixed.

Sorry I didn't wave as you drove by on your way into Justin's shop...I was awe struck by the sound of the 'Angry-mix mobile' going by. Also taking in the looks of the black/red-lip rims. I think you should call it "tha stunna!" Wish I could have stuck around to see more, guess I'll have to wait for the pre-cruise cruise if you are still down.

Haha, yeah, I fell asleep at the helm there in GrimmSpeed's driveway. I dont' know why I was so tired, maybe it was the 11:30pm run to Flameburger. Eitherway, tangled, I may have to do a mock run this weekend if we have time.
As for the phantom knock, I think I just forced the ECU to learn around it. It's all been a lesson in counter-intuitive tuning today. Normally when your car stumbles and pulls timing you back off and take it easy. Well the more I did that, the more it seemed to pull timing. So instead on teh way back from GrimmSpeed I said "screw it, I'm gonna wail on this damn thing when it stumbles." So I did, and it seemed to have learned around the issue. It runs nice and smooth again. Still going to have Tom play with it this evening though. 15psi ftw ;) It hauls ass and sounds like it wants to kill your firstborn.

Also, much thanks to phi11 for the "2.2 litre" sticker. Representing the ol' skool and such.

Metal shavings were found in the 500 mile oil change. We're pulling the motor to investigate. I have pre-emptively ordered a new crankshaft and new bearings, just in case. We'll find out by Sunday what the verdict is.
Either way, the plan is to have it back on the road by Wednesday of next week. Stay tuned.

I'll try to take a picture of it. It is non-ferrous slivers that are between an 1/16th and 1/8th inch long. Aluminum. There are a few dozen of them on the sieve that I made. There was also a light ticking coming from cylinder 3. The oil looked slightly thin. It did not smell like fuel. The shavings were larger than the metal flake particulate that you might normally find in your oil. I have the seive but the oil has been dumped into the collection bucket. It was in a clear plastic container.
