Looking for a local shop to mold a Fiberglass Mines replica spoiler onto a trunk. Something like this: Anybody other than Ray have experience with local shops doing work like this? Any idea on price? Never had a mad tyte body kitz, so I'm weighing my options... wondering if it'll be cheaper to just buy a do-luck trunk and paint it... or maybe I'll be happy with the look of a non-molded lip spoiler... doubt it tho.
Raymond auto body? Haven't called them yet, but I should. Ray's old guys (chop shop) do really good work but I think they're out of business. Hypertek has been slow to respond via pm, so I'm looking for names of places I can call and talk with.
I know a buddy had an entire body kit molded into his celica, or cogar at hopkins auto body. It looked really good.
nope it is red and he lives down south now... probably only lived here for a 3 months after it was done.
What?! You didn't like the panels that didn't line up and the zip-tied intercooler piping? Or the wadded up women's panty hose that served as a shim? Or the random bolt that was digging into the charge pipe?
hey idget you should get Foose to do it... he actually made one from a honda lid to fit onto the honda they did.. looked just the one you like in that pic.. I thought it was the nicest Honda I have ever seen.. Foose of course.. what wouldnt look good...
they did.. they didnt go crazy like on the Yank Machines... but they put some nice brand name parts on...
I remember that. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not looking for anything crazy. I'm just not a fan of non-molded lip spoilers. The do-luck trunk is a little more subtle (besides the whole CF bit), but harder to get a hold of and $$$.
Rear window visibility:laugh: Actually, they are supposed to help with aero when used in with a real wing... I'm planning to get rid of the stock park bench and replace it with this... planning to swap rear deck with Josh too.
So are you looking at having the spoiler molded flush with no seam? I saw Mines replicas on ebay but I have heard the quality isn't great. It might help a shop with a starting point. I really wanted to get an STI limited spoiler and paint it flat black but I am going to rock the wingless for a while.
The plan is to try the ravspec groupbuy http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1505787 Fitment is supposed to be fine, but we will see. If not, I have a line on an original CF one (non-replica). STI limited spoiler is an option too. I'm pretty sure it's smaller than the Mines. I don't like the proportion of the limited with the roof vane, so I'm hoping the Mines will look a little better.
Have you been following the rubber ducky redo on the MAC forum ? This is something Eric might be up for, and he's had lots of practice lately.
Ha! Yeah, we can be twins with tacky blue wheels and trunk lip spoilers. The pic in the first post was molded with Fiberglass. I REALLY want the Modelista lip. It looks fine not molded but fitment is supposedly horrible. Here's a thread where someone molded the Modelista spoiler: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1100073 pic: If the price of this little project nears $1k, I'll start looking for this used (yeah right):
Yeah I don't much less care for the other lip, but the first one is pure sex! Oh and pick me out the right color http://roseyspowdercoating.biz/index.php
"Black-Blue" is what mine will end up like. I think "Navy Blue" or "Steele Blue" would look good on your shade of silver.
"Rear window visibility:laugh:" You're not exactly Petter, so I don't think you have much to worry about. LOL Dude my Toyota Prius has one of these come to think of it and the Touring model has one that is 2" longer. I'm surprise you're taking this route considering how serious you are with AutoCrossing, I figured you'd go with a tall GT Touring wing in the rear and a front splitter. But I guess I'm not getting the whole picture. I plan to get more aero on the 240sx. Well I guess it will be fun and interesting to see how this one pans out. Maybe you'll take out that M3 with this mod, or not. LOL
I'll take the Prius spoiler lol Well, it's still a daily driver. The plan is to have 2 trunks so if high speed aero is ever a concern (hopefully I have $ for it this year) I can swap the stocker back on. I haven't seen any solid data on any of these lip spoilers, especially together with the factory roof vane, but I figure the weight savings would offset the low speed downforce of the stock wing (if any). I do have a front lip spoiler but it needs to be mounted better. Looks better than it functions at such low speeds, but I'm happy with it.
You must be going plenty fast to be considering this at this stage of the game. I guess some of us grow wings alot sooner than others. Once you learn to fly, dont forget how to land. LOL
Mushashi's right man, you're good, but not that good. Actually, I recall reading an article about lip spoilers such as one's like these and on most cars (I would assume that the aerodynamics of an Impreza are fairly generic) the "duck-lip" spoilers actually do provide some adequate downforce. Whether or not it's as much as your B-52 air foil or not is another mystery.
Lol, yeah, this is NOT an aero mod at all. Like I've said, it's all for looks and drivability. With my seat position, the factory wing cuts off visibility of the tops of cars behind me...
Sheen you may want to seriously consider getting one of these for the Trunk. Dude this guy is getting 76mpg on diesel plus the wing. Dosen't it just remind you of a little angel?
Yeah that would be nice. So far I have a beat on a trunk for 100, spoiler for 200, and labor/paint for 500. Still weighing my options, but if I could find a do-luck trunk for near or less than 800 I'd jump on it right now.
well if you can get the trunk and the lip spoiler... i would be willing to help you mold it all and get it prepped for paint. then have jason just spray it as i have no where to do it anymore
I was thinking of a DIY job. It's been years since I've worked with fiberglass (audio enclosures), but it could be a fun summer project. The paint part is the part I'd be most hesitant to do myself.
