I'm approaching that time in my life where it would be a good idea to have a friend in the jewelry business. Does anyone have recommendations in the Minneapolis area, or even online? Thank you for any advice. Mike
We have a member here that is in the family jewelry business. michael48 I think is his username. Loch Jewelers, if I recall correctly. Though, I haven't seen him around in a while...
I won't go to anyone other than Randy at SR Hoskins. Tell him that Bro sent you S R Hoskins Fine Jewelry 207 Central Ave Osseo, MN 55369 (763) 493-9272
Jeffrey Jeweler's in DT is wonderful. Family owned, really good people, very fair prices. They can make something custom for you as well as order the catalog stuff. They will even buy an engagement ring back, ask me how I know...
I used Michael Loch from here for my engagement and wedding rings for my wife, Loch Jewelers up in Monticello. We were extremely happy with the service and purchase.
Thanks for the responses guys! I' would definitely prefer a small family owned shop. It sounds like there's some good ones to choose from. A vajeweler would be dope! Mike
if it's dimonds do not go to a brick and mortar unless you want to pay 50-300% markup on basic things. there is really no reason to do so, don't listen to them telling you that settings will fall out, etc., it's all crap and any half reputable "jeweler" can do a setting. these are all mass produced, mass available items and there is no reason not to go with the lowest cost supplier. start with bluenile and find a dimond, then call a local broker out of new york somewhere (what you see on bluenile is a public list that any broker can see) give the guy the IGA # and they'll get the dimond for you for half the markup of bluenile. Then pick your setting or even send a picture of what you want and they'll make it for you. i'll have to dig through my emails but i can get you the name of reputable dimond broker that i've dealt with out of nyc. or just go with bluenile...you'll pay a little more on the setting side for ease of convenience, but it'll still be significantly less than any store will offer you. if you really wanted to get anal, i suggest you search for dimond brightness calculator, and start plugging dimond dimentions that you find in there, you'll see how something that's called "excellent" cut doesn't really have the performance and reflectivity as another dimond would. i've always looked at it that the stone is the most important thing and the settings anyone could do, so if you find the right stone for the right price that's 99% of the hunt -- and that's something that a local store is completely useless in, since they want to pedal you a finished product because it'll have the highest potential markup on it.
I used them too. They did a very good job. Just don't add him on Facebook or talk to him outside of the buyer/seller setting...trust me on this one.
Oh man, I know that whole family. I was good friends with one of his cousins growing up and you are not wrong...a couple odd ducks. They are very good jewelers though! They go to South Africa every year to pick out their diamonds themselves. My friend's dad who was also involved in the business used to always try and convince me the earth was only 4000 years old and that dinosaur fossils are all faked by scientists. His favorite person to quote was Kent Hovind, aka "Dr Dino" For reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_Hovind
Yeah, I got to hear Mike and his wife's ridiculous thoughts on gays. I say "hear" because they pretty much just back and forth barked their inane, bigoted commentary at me. I immediately blocked them from contact.
Yeah I have seen that on their Facebook too. The crazy science denial and bigotry usually go hand in hand. The worst part is my buddy has actually come out in the last few years. It is miserable when your family has those views but you have known your whole life.
Diet aids are legit. My cousin died of diet aids in the 90s. Diet aides on the otherhand... More scammy than car insurance.
Bergstrom Jewelers in the West End is where I have been going. Dino is a stand up guy who will not lead you astray. Great local company that has been around for many years (used to be downtown MPLS). Many family and friends have gone there and had good service, and competitive pricing.
I bought my wife's ring at Knox Jewelers in Uptown, and they were great. They have alot of modern designs and can do custom work if you want. They are small, family owned, and treated me good. The wife gets tons of compliments on her ring .. I Recommend them.
Great! He is amazing! He custom made my Wifes' Wedding ring for us and my Dad has been going to him for years. Randy's Mother used to work for my Dad years ago. Glad he was able to help you out.
I had him make custom one as well! I proposed on Saturday and everything went fantastic! If anyone else is looking for a jeweler I would highly recommend Randy at SR Hoskins! Hassle free, honest, great pricing
will have to go check them out in person and see if i can get a custom one as well. looking for something unique as well
1st off congratulations on your engagement!! 2nd off really glad Randy hooked you up! Not that I'm at all surprised, but Randy is the man.
I'll plug my buddy's place. Some of our favorite sports players frequent his shop http://www.grahamjewelers.com/
Northeast metro. I’ve known him for over a decade. I got my wedding bands there and we recently had Vanessa’s wedding ring fixed. Him and his wife were a part of our housechurch. Greg Foote Jewelers in Oakdale off of Hadley. https://gregfootejewelers.com/
Toni got her ring checked out and fixed at Dan Gould on Main Street in Anoka. I can ask her more about it tonight for ya.
