Anyone have remote start on their M/T car. Co-worker of mine has a 10 Forester with a stick and wants to get remote start installed. Since we have a neutral switch in the the transmission I know there must be a way to safely install one. Can anyone suggest an installer in the area?

Yes, you can do it safely, you can access that wire at the ECU. I can't recommend a place because I did my car myself, which I would not recommend unless you have lots of experience with wiring and circuits. Good luck.

I know a guy here in Duluth who does great work with remote starts.

But yea, it's definitely possible. Compustar makes a unit specific for MT cars that has a sequence you have to do in order for the remote start to work (set parking brake, turn off key [engine keeps running], get out of the car, lock the doors, and then the engine stops).

Yes, I have a viper with remote start on my 5MT. We used the alarm's E-brake sensor wire, hooked to the Neutral Sensor wire on the ECU, under the passenger carpet.

Works great, I'm glad I don't have to deal with the alternate "set brake, turn off, do more stuff" mode that the alarm has. Instead, it's just seamless.

If the hood is up, won't start. If it's in gear, won't start.

AstroFlex/Astrostart also makes some really nice stuff. The only thing about the neutral sensor is that sometimes the stick moves during start up and triggers the neutral switch shutting off the ride. I had a problem with that in the Wrangler. I know this isn't a Wrangler, but it is something to think about.

Alright, after a brisk morning today. I'm realizing that it might be a better idea for me to have remote start on my car. I have to take my kid to daycare everyday now. It might be nice to just pull the car out when I walk the dog. Then hit the remote start when I carry the kid down to the car. I still have warranty on my car and would like to find a shop/person who will be able to work with that. Is that still Kyle?

Soundwaves in Ramsey MN does a great job. I used to work there and they sell only the best, Compustar and Viper. They warranty their work for life and do THE BEST!!! installs in the cities! No questions. 763-783-5797.

Does the remote replace the Subaru one? Or do I have to have both? I need the trunk pop since there is no keyhole.

Will be a replacement in most cases. A Compustar/Viper will be able to activate your stock or aftermarket trunk release solenoid.

a remote start should not void your warranty, I am not 100% on that though.

send kyle a pm and see what he says or do what ksal says.

I'll just throw out there that my experience with Viper (Directed Electronics) is that the remotes barely last a year and cost $50-75 to replace (at the cheapest, double that retail). It does auto-start my manual, though. Except for that pesky disabled NSS... don't ask ...
