I am planning on replacing the DOT3 brake fluid in the STi with some DOT4 hi-temp stuff, anyone know the capacity of the 08 STi braking system? Also, what order the wheels need to be bled in to ensure that I get all of the older fluid out?
Start with the furthest wheel from the master cylinder. If you don't let the master go dry you shouldn't have any problems.
I can't speak for the sti but the 2.5rs has a funny bleeding proceedure. not the typical start from the furthest wheel. I'd try and look into it more. .02
I did my wrx and I did the GF's lgt when I replaced the lines and everything and I didn't use much more than .5 pint. I KNOW for a FACT that I replace all the fluid since I used ate super blue. Russ
yea we re-ran all the lines (hardlines and softlines) on my car and didn't use an entire bottle filling the system
^Thats what I was alluding to. Does that apply to all subarus? I <3 super blue, although I've been questioned at two track events about why my fluid is dark.
you have to remember the brake lines are small, the most fluid you have is in the reservoir itself... so buy a cheap turkey baster, suck it down till there is only a small amount left in it.. top it off with new stuff and bleed... at tops you would need 2 qt size bottles... and that would depend on how many times you bleed from each bleeder...
Thanks for the info. That link provided exactly what I was looking for in the bleed order. I am also replacing the stock for the blue, so I believe that it will be pretty obvious when I get to the new fluid. It's just too bad that I can't put steel braided lines on the car, this would be a perfect opportunity...
Does anyone sell ATE or Motul locally? Also I do not want to deal with so does anyone want make some money that has done this before?
Looks like MAP sells both give them a call. http://www.maperformance.com/maintenance-items-brake-fluid/
I bought some Motul from them last summer since they were out of Super Blue forever. Good stuff, works amazingly well. Brakes feel a thousand times better, much firmer pedal, no more sponginess. Although, I gotta admit I've never actually used the Super Blue brake fluid.
