I just got a new top mount for 03 WRX and want to know if i need to retune the ECU or just keep it like that. I had it tunned last year with stage 2 upgrades at DB. Thanks.
Well, "need" is subjective. Depending on the flow characteristics of your new IC, you could be flowing a ton more air at the same boost, less boost down low, or more boost up top, all of which would require a change in timing and map wastegate cycles. Alternatively, your new IC may not have much effect on all of those things. What did you switch from/to?
I have stock turbo, but plan on getting VF34 in the future. Just want to keep air cool in the summer time. So i don't know if i need to tune it, becasue i will not be changing boost anyways.
I guess I have just come to the conclusion that every time I buy a power had on I also have to pay Nate.
Well no, you are changing your boost. You just changed a portion of your car that effects boost control. I would most liken it to changing from a catted to catless exhaust, or maybe changing from stock to an aftermarket axleback. No, you don't "need" a tune. Will your car knock on your current tune with a different IC? Probably. Will it learn this knock and still be perfectly safe to drive? Maybe, it depends on the current tune. As I said, it's fairly subjective.
I do have catless exhaust and car was tunned by Shane at DB with open ECU after stage 2 upgrades. I know intercooler will change my boost by a little bit but would the ECU catch that and fix it or I need to manually do it by tunning it?
What I'm saying is that it could go either way. To answer those questions, I'd have to look at your current tune with the TMIC on. Maybe ask Shane what he thinks, as he's the one who tuned your car.
I'm gonna go ahead and say no. Sorry, as far as I know you don't have any experience tuning or even datalogging. At least let Nate do some logging after you put it on your car.
