i personaly run 245/40-17 on a 17X8 but if you dont plan on rolling fenders or putting 3mm spacers in the rear then i wouldn't go more then a 215/40-18 or a 215/45-18 on a 18x8 rim. anything more then a 215 typically rubs depending on your suspension mods for the gc8... rolling your fenders makes a BIG difference

IMO i think 17's are as big as you should go so that you can still have a sidewall to absorb all the bumps and potholes of minnesota roads. so yeah i like 17x8 the only problem you might run into is your rear tires rubbing on the strut hence the need for a 3mm spacer in the rear. here is my car on 17x8's

17*8 ftw. On my gc8, im running the same (245 tire width) but with ssr. I like them and feel more grip compared to my cousin 17*7.5(215 tire width). Both the same tires.

    I run 17x8 +48mm 235/40/17 Falken Azenis RT615.
I RUB during hard cornering. I had to roll the fenders. I think it would clear the stock struts, but not the fenders.

For stock suspension or coil spring/strut setup, I'd say 215/45/17 on 17x7 / 17x7.5 wheels.
