ARG! I ended up being busy all day today driving all around town doing errands and by the time I got home it was already after 7. Hopefully I will catch up with some of you guys locally here sometime soon. I'm hopefully picking up some home-brewing equipment tomorrow around noonish. Now to see if I have any kind of a knack for brewing my own beer......... Test subjects wanted! -Steve
Ah, another home brewer! I'm just about to start a new batch soon (hopefully today). I've been brewing for about a year and a half, all of mine have turned out excellent. I'm sure you will have no problem. Where are you picking stuff up from? Here in town? I'd suggest the place across from Menards north or go on line to http://www.midwestsupplies.com. They are located in St. Louis Park, MN so shipping is usually pretty fast.
Haha, I wouldn't call myself a home brewer just yet! I'm getting my stuff from an older guy here in town that brewed as a hobby for a long time but decided to stop to "tighten up his budget". I was actually just up at the brew supply store across from menards yesterday for a few minutes and it looks like a nice shop. The guy working (longer slightly grayed hair) seemed really laid back and knowledgeable so that will hopefully be a good resource if I screw something up. I'm probably going to start out with some simple straight malt extract brews and see how they go and then work my way up from there. If anyone has any non-screwtop beer bottles they can part with (empty of course haha) I'll take some. -Steve
Wow, this cool older guy (retired) that I bought all the equipment from was cool as hell. He hooked me up with like 500 bucks worth of equipment, books, notes, bottles, etc for cheap! Now I just need to go get stuff to make beer with now! -Steve
:banana:Firestone Friday! Lets go! I'm going to grab the hoodies for the Rochester crew so if you ordered one let me know so I can get it for you if your not going to make it up there to get it. Also, Brad~ Can you give me an idea when you can get me the shocks and sway bar. I would like to know what kinda cash I'll have on hand for other things that come up. Thanks. I'm still hopen to get to discount tire the first week in May to make my big purchase!!
Well I tell you guys what, once I get rolling with brewing some frosty beverages I'll be sure to throw down some get togethers. Always fun to meet some locals. I'd be down for next weekend to meet up, sorry I flaked out this past weekend, I'm still in the middle of putting my apartment together. I don't even have a couch/chair/futon! All I have to sit on is one computer chair and two bar stools hahaha. If anyone has any cheap furniture that doesn't look like it came out of their grandma's basement LET ME KNOW!!!! -Steve
You had me at "roman orgy"! :eek3: How exactly does a Roman orgy differ from a Greek orgy or a Minnesota orgy for that matter? :yumyum: Steve
Brad, I've tried to get ahold of you now for the last week. But have yet to hear back. Aric will take the sway bar but I am going to pass on the struts. I simply can not wait any longer for these. Thanks anyways though. On another note. Aric and I are going to Firstone Friday eveybody should come! It would be a good way to start the weekend get together. I hear Saturday and Sunday are going to be crappy. It is going to be high 40's-50's in the week to follow though.
Brad is still trying to figure out how to answer his phone, something about getting the red and green buttons mixed up. :dunno:
The struts are laying on the floor in my garage collecting dust... If you want them let me know. The sway bar will be out soon!
As stated before I still want the sway bar but no longer am interested in the struts. I already tried to get ahold of you all last week. I decided to buy somebody elses because I couldn't wait any longer for you to get back to me as of when I could pick them up. Thanks anyways though. Is anybody else going to Firestone Friday besides Aric and I?
so yea I talked about this at the stone here is the details...i as well as a few others (not just subarus gasp!) from lacrosse/ rochester/minneapolis are meeting for some bufet and acrade next sat. here is the info. between the possible car cleaning, beer refilling, and of course t3h UFC event @ meine house i'll prolly miss this. Although I wouldn't mind seeing some nice CRX's.....
*couch* ask rexarew *cough* *cough* I had an extra room people could crash in til my roommate came back. Maybe somebody has a couch or something.
UFC!! I love UFC!! Well, You could stay at the Fiksdal... That's where I work. Nothing fancy but the rate is pretty cheap and the rooms are clean. $69+tax a nite. w/ tax that comes to $76.59 for 1 nite. I might be able to lower the price a bit for you if you let me know ahead of time. Otherwise there are plenty of hotels in town. It just depends what price range you're looking for or how safe you feel in some!:ugh: I'm not sure if I will be able to go to this. I work till 3pm and Aric might work that day as well. We'll see what we can swing. It sounds like it would be fun.
I might just have to try to make it out to that! Damn I need to get out and meet some of you guys one of these days.... -Steve
Yup, that would be me! I was picking up a ton of furniture on mega-sale for my apartment. I was probably parked by the front doors? The toaster is actually kinda hard to miss, with the tint and big group of lights on the front it actually sticks out a bit, at least compared to the other "normal" foresters out there. God I want to put on my summer rims/tires! What's everyone doing tonight? -Steve
Put 'em on! I did mine weeks ago. had to drive once in the snow but it wasnt that bad. Hopefully it done for the year... anybody going to gorillaz sat then? Keep the kidz in line?
Yeah I think I'm going to go if some of you guys are going to be there. And yes, I did put on the summer rims/tires today. Now I'm just thumbing my nose at the snow gods, I'm sure we'll get 18" out of nowhere now.... -Steve
yea i am debating whether to put my 18's on..but i am so tired of my winter steelies. hopefully they will be on for the cruise.

I'm sitting in my apartment patiently waiting to hear back from the clinic about a few jobs I applied for. I REALLY hope I can get the one I applied for in the clinical labs division as it pays very well. I heard back from the insurance company today, they're starting to process paperwork and all that, and called Abra after I got off the phone with them to get a copy of the repair estimate. I think they are going to try to send an adjuster out next week some time to take a look at the car. Unfortunately I don't have rental covered so I'll have to either be without a car for a week, or pay out of pocket for a rental car. I just racked my first batch of beer into the secondary today (for those who remembered I was foraying into the land of beer brewing) and it looks good. It's still a bit on the bitter side (English Pale Ale) so I'm curious to see how it turns out after some time in the carboy and after bottle conditioning. Oh well even if it is a little 'off' it will still totally be drinkable, especially for a first beer. I also have a 5 gallon carboy full of "Apfelwein" or basically just fermented apple juice with 2 lbs of dextrose booster added to it. It should be tastey, but it won't be done for at least another month. I've been working out like a madman lately (5 days a week, 1.5 hours each day) and I've been packing away food and beer like it was going out of style. I'm actually getting skinnier and have put on about 4-5 lbs since I've been back in Roch. Sorry for the ramblings, I'm bored at home and have nothing to do but read books until I hear back from Mayo about the jobs I applied for. What's everyone else doing? -Steve
What's your degree in? what experience do you have? - I am at "work" in a lab at mayo... my maple syrup ale will be ready in a couple weeks. i am going to be starting a mead soon, and then a tripel belgian honey. right now I grab one of my previous beers and its mystery beer night - they're not labled
I have a double major in chemistry and plant biology, I'm applying for jobs in the clinical labs (hopefully). I'm still waiting to hear back if I get an interview, so we'll see what happens. Sounds like we should have a home-brew get together once I get a few brews under my belt, do you brew all grain or do you do extract brewing? -Steve
If you have a science degree, they'll ususally hire you here. I know a guy with an earth science major that works in my lab as a technical specialist! I just do extract brewing. I don't have the equipment or time to dedicate to all grain brewing. I'd be willing to host a taste test/bbq sometime this summer.
