Hey NewSteve, I have a friend that will require the usage of an orbital buffer and some paint repair knowhow. Think you can lend a hand?
Yeah I can help out, I won't be available until friday night or the weekend though. What do you need help with? Someone trade some paint in a parking lot? I have a claybar, two kinds of paint polish, paint sealant, and some meguire's wax depending on how bad it is. I'm not going to try to do touchup though, don't want to mess anything up on someone elses car. Just let me know. Even if we had to buff out the whole car it wouldn't take more than 2-3 hours for a quick buff, plus time to seal the paint again with the FK1. -Steve
All I'd ask of you is to remove the scratches/scruffs. She'll need paintwork, but at least I'm hoping to minimize the appearnce of damage.
I'll do what I can, what day were you thinking? How big is the affected area that we are talking about? -Steve
Also, I pretty much need a garage at a minimum big enough to house the car with some decent lighting in it to do the best job. If this will be a problem we could potentially do it in my single-stall garage here at my apartment complex, but I will have to bust out a few hand lamps and stuff to see the best. I don't think I want to be detailing outside in the wind/spray/crap this weekend. -Steve
We can use my brother's garage, it's got plenty of space. I've got handlamps, too. When do you want to do it this weekend?
So far my only plans are having a friend visit from the cities, but I don't know when she is coming down (or for sure yet). What works best for you guys? Is the garage heated? Looks like it's going to be a cold one this weekend.... -Steve
It's all good, we could probably just drive the car around the block to warm it up then let that heat up the garage a little bit. So long as I'm not totally freezing my ass off we can still do it. I just talked to Jill and heard the story of how the damage occurred. Bummer.... Saturday afternoon would probably work best for me, sometime after 1? I'd prefer to do it while it was still light out as it can help with seeing swirls/scuffs. We'll have to wash the affected area by hand first otherwise it will just buff in more scratches as the pad will pick up any dirt/sand/paint. I'll bring my soap and a microfiber sponge, so long as I have a bucket and a hose I can use with a towel. Is it the whole hood/a-pillars that got scratched up? Did the roof take any damage too? I'll do what I can depending on how deep the scratches are. -Steve
Front bumper, both fenders, headlights, side mirrors, and roof took damage. She's talking about buying a space heater, so we'll make it work. YGPM.
Brad~ Do you work this next Friday the 28th? I forgot to come down yesterday. And I only have Sunday and Mondays off of both jobs. Otherwise, Friday after 3 works for me. I'd rather have you change my lugs then anybody else there.
Speaking of which... Brad, Call me about that tire I need to replace. I gotta get it done before Tuesday if possible.
did you see the "time attack" style duplicolor job we did on Dan's Civic si? also, I've done about ten sets of wheels many of which have been on my own cars and have gone through winters- I sand with 120 grit (just make sure to scuff everywhere) tape anything off that is needed paint with duplicolor wheel paint no other steps are actually necessary- I've found I prefer the finish without the clear and it makes it so you can do spot repairs much easier. There is no need for the primer. The wheel paint is easier to spray and "fills" better than the high temp engine paints. If you want colors not available in wheel paint then you will have to sand with 180 or 220 prior to spraying. -drew
Drew, took care of my wheels a week ago - see here http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29029&page=5 sanded, cleaned, 2 coats primer, 4+ coats color, 2+ coats clearcoat. We'll see how they stand up. Thought about wet sanding them and polishing/waxing them. eh, whatever. Also, shot a 6-pointer this morning and my cousin got a nice 8. I'll post pictures later in the deer hunt thread.
For the record, I managed to get at least 90+% of the scuffs out of the car, most of it was just clear coat scratches. There were a few spots that had the clear coat totally scraped off and a few paint chips that I obviously couldn't do anything about. If anyone needs some parking lot dings/scuffs taken out LMK as I can git-r-done pretty quickly if it's not too deep. Will work for good beer . -Steve
CONTRATS GANGSTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! believe me having your "pills" in her purse for the rest of your life isn't as depressing as you'd think, i know from experience... wait.....wait a minute.....yes it is.... excuse me i have to go listen to My Chemical Romance and cut myself some more so i can feel again

Back at ya! I dont get to join in on the festivities of today..I have to sleep in order to be awake at work all night tonight Yay for leftovers! On a side note, I got my car back yesterday ...it was a LOOOOONG 2 weeks...
It was located inside the service bay of Clements Subaru. The motor spun a rod bearing...two to be exact. Two fridays ago, I was driving to the mall, and I had stopped at a light, and when I went to go... I hear this "knock knock knock". So I pull into Clements right before service closes...and drop it off. Come to find out....its the SAME problem that they were having with the 08's last year..the problem that caused the recalls and the stop sale announcement. Took them a week to order the motor (it arrived monday) and then 2 days to swap it out... Gay. I did get them to cover my December car payment, and refund my 7yr, 100,000 mile warranty to compensate for my lost time. Still not very happy with the whole situation though. EDIT: Clements service was excellent. The service manager was an awesome guy. Its SOA that I have a problem with, as well as the dealership that I bought the vehicle from (Bloomington Subaru)
I'm at work. I'll be done hopefully around 2. Then we are going to go and enjoy some of my moms cooking.
wvf-16 recall? The failing turbo oil feed line? Sounds like your failure may have also been due to the oil pickup line in the oil pan. Can you confirm what the failure was?
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/07/subaru-issues-stop-sale-on-all-models-equipped-with-turbod-2/ ^^ this. Its an "internal wear issue" specifically relating to engine rod bearings The regional subaru tech came to clements, they pulled the oil pan...and found parts of the bearing in the oil pan apparently. I have the service write up out in the car. I would think it has something to do with the turbo , as the 2.5 NA motors weren't effected by the recall.
Heres a thread on 3gwrx about it ... http://www.3gwrx.com/forum/index.php?topic=4640.0 aaaand a vid...
So it's probably oil starvation due to: If you get a chance, I'd be interested in seeing what's written on the service write up.
They mentioned nothing of oil starvation, and they didnt relate it to anything specific. I do belive the oil feed recall had something to do with the feed line breaking, causing an oil leak which could lead to an engine fire.
Anybody else here interested in heading up to see Slipknot on Friday Jan 23rd? Tickets should be about $45-50 after fees link to german shiese pr0n
So I'm thinking that Im going to tint up the 5 door sometime soon. Should I wait until spring, or does it matter? Also, anyone know of any good tint people in the Roch area?
