Not Kojak, Lo-jack. Lo-jack is the system they can use to track down your car after it's been stolen. Not much of a detterrent, but should help to find the suckas after they take your car for a joyride/chop-shop. Maybe invest in a "trunk-monkey". The AccessPORT has 2 anti-theft modes...
Is Lojack gonna keep the filty varmints from breaking in in the first place? I supposed you put stickers on the outside. If they are going to break in and do a bunch of damage....I'd almost rather they stole the damn thing cuz I would feel so violated. Steve
anyone keep their cars out for the winter? if so, next big storm ya wanna go play in the snow? or I guess if you know of any places that dont get plowed, that would be great too! I'm in snow mode now I spent an hour and a half this morning driving around after I got off work, I just thought it would be more fun with more people.
I used to nutz around after the snow, but there's too many cops patrolling after I get done with work (1am). (cinemagic parkinglot before westfire was built) For some reason I'm experiencing understeer this winter. New springs? rear sway bar? One would think I would oversteer more... I can still induce oversteer with e-brake Anyway, I'm starting to notice a change for the better with AP stage 1 also, steve has no christmas lights up!
The HELL you say.....all sorts of lights.....we just turn them off when we go to bed....my wife the Electrical Engineer GEEK doesn't trust the cheap-o Target special lights not to burn our house down! Steve
Hell....By 9:00 I'm usually asleep on the couch in front of the TV and then Tami wakes me up to go to bed at 10:00. A night-owl I am definately not. Pretty sad to get old! Steve
Get your horns working yet? When do you want me to swing bye to make sure you put them together correctly? hahaha! I'm thinking I need a new project with my car. Not sure what. I'm also not to sure it's a good idea to be working on my car when it's -8degrees and too cold for the snow to melt off the streets. Guess I'm just bored.
If you are THAT bored Pat, we can install my downpipe so i can atleast go to stage deuce. I also need to check out these horns, looks like they are the shiznit. Speaking of projects, right after winter I am going on a buying spree as I need to do the whole suspension. Sprints, struts, sway bars, maybe wheels/tires... so will bug you Pat as you've researched a lot.
Ever go to that garden on 55th by essex. not to bad to drive as long as you watch out for all those steel posts. out by mayo wood isnt to bad if you get there before they plow/sand.
Sure, if you want you can bug me about all that stuff! I'd be glad to help out. If Steve's garage isn't available for installs we can probably use my friend Jason's garage. He's a car nut too. I don't know that I need to get anything for my car right now. I'm just bored cuz I can't really drive my car. Just gingerly driving to work and back, and letting my car warm up for 5 minutes in the friggen cold. SubarWRX, I know the area you're talking about. But there isn't much room there! I'd be worried about offroading, hitting a deep rut and ruining my suspension. I prefer a big empty parking lot myself. Somewhere secluded with no 5-0.
Nabil How about we tackle you DP right aftern New Years or maybe even NewYears weekend? I'm pretty busy until then. I have the Friday before New Years off. I'm going to suggest though we use my work building in Dodge Center. It's a little snug getting a car in there....but I did to do my stereo install. It's got in-floor heat which beats the living dog doo out of laying on the freezing cold floor in my unheated garage. Let me know! Pat No, I haven't messed with the horns. I tried again the next day with all new wires but no dice. I thing I probably hosed something up when I took them apart when I painted them. Not a big deal. I did add XM to my head-unit and had a set of WS-50 Blizzaks put on my stock rims. WoW!!!!! The tires are awesome. It's like night and day from my pretty worn Pzeros.
got some help well, as I told you guys, I was too chicken to do my own fuel pump. Matt made it look totally easy, he did it in a total of 30 minutes on Sunday. He also installed my TIC/kartboy super shifter bundle - no way I would have gotten that one done. I have heard it is a PITA in a WRX, in the STI it was really bad. Even he struggled a little. I figure I could have done the downpipe and catback on my own, but he certainly did it faster and he did a custom turbo wrap at the same time. The exhaust is great. I am anxious to hear what you guys think of the sound. No question the power is better. Can't wait for custom tune and dyno. The short shifter and bushing are amazing, throws are the shortest of any car I have ever driven. The shifter is solid and precise with zero play/slop. Truly must feel to believe. Can't detect any additional noise from the fuel pump, hopefully will prove to be a good investment when tuning begins. Work has been merciless recently, but my offer of the garage still holds for after the holidays. Still no permanent heating installed, but I have a few space heaters if we need them.
Thanks Steve. I should be available. Brad, Sounds like you are creating a monster machine for yourself. I hafta checkout ur ride, it's been a while. Rochester Guys! We are expected to get 5-8inches of snow. Any good parking lots???? http://mnsubaru.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4478 We need to take our skirts off and pull up our pants!!!.. It's time to play. Who is in? OK i'll stop with the BS. We need to have a get together and tear it up in this snow. Let's find a good parking lot.
How about the Pemstar parking lot......I'm sure they wouldn't mind us playing a little.....I got a set of ws-50 blizzaks and I still haven't figured them out......they work to well. I'm in for the playtime! Steve
the problems w/ our parking lot are 1. the site is open 24 hours so there are always cars around 2. Poles 3. being right next to the highway does not help as there are always cops driving by.
I think you are just chicken excrement! We just tell ossifer friendly that we are trying to learn how our cars handle so we are safer drivers on the road. If they fall for that then we try to sell them some swamp land in Florida! Steve
I couldn't help noticing that the distance between the light poles in K-Mart's lot is HUGE compared to most. But that doesn't really meet the "well-hidden" criteria, being so close to Broadway. <musing> Since most parking lots would be private property, I don't think it's technically illegal to drive around on them and accidentally do a few 720's because it was slippery. It's not like you're vandalizing anything or endangering anyone, right? If the property owners complained, yeah, you'd have to leave or be guilty of trespassing. But I don't think you'd get a ticket or get arrested unless you started causing problems. DISCLAIMER: I'm neither a lawyer NOR a traffic cop, so take the above legal assessment with a grain of salt. </musing> There's a small lot with NO poles, hidden away at the fairgrounds; I do donuts in my Vette there on warm summer nights, to shake the flat spots out of the tires. The downside in winter would be that it probably doesn't get plowed AT ALL, and it's County property so you can't even pretend to have the owner's permission if the Sheriff drives by.
Heh! well.. this chicken poopie ended up creating some nice donuts in the parking lot on wednesday. Soooo.. what are you guys doing on sunday? let's see how our cars 'handle' in snow?
No plans on Sunday.....I'm in!!! I doubt that Rob or Brad will show though cuz we've obviously fallen below their social guidelines! Pat isn't too cool for us....yet......maybe he'll join us. Steve
got some help Brad Were you heading up there early afternoon on Sunday? I thought I saw a black STI that looked alot like yours on my way back from the Twin Cities airport. Steve
Well, call me a prima donna if you must, but my Suby's tucked in a garage for the winter. I'd show up in the Crapice to show you girls how to do RWD Blizzak drifting, though... assuming I was in town that day (weekends are iffy).
Rob.....I'm sorry...but that is just wrong....wrong....wrong! Suby + Winter + Garage = Bad Rob! Steve
got some help Nope, I went up at around 8:30 and was heading back by about 4:30. There is at least one other black STi in Rochester, and I saw a black 2005 WRX with a STi wing on it in town recently too. (Completely off topic, but someone in town has been cruising around in a Lambo too.) Brad
You mean I didn't tell you guys Tami bought me a Lambo for Christmas??? j/k Now that you say that I did see an older Lambo this summer coming down Northern Heights Drive. I was riding my mountainbike down the bike path along Broadway and he was stopped at the stoplight. I about wiped out trying to give him two thumbs up! Steve
black countach? Saw it about a month ago up close, it was on second street and the sound was unreal. It was stuck in traffic at first, but I could hear it as he opened it up on the on-ramp for 52. Sounds great, looks great, but can't drive it in the snow! Would love to have one. Started checking out prices on the interned after I saw it. They just don't depreciate, I guess it will remain a dream.
Yep....pretty sure it was a black countach. Wouldn't your environmentally friendly neighbor really appreciate you reving that in your driveway. My dream car is slightly more cost-effective but just as impractical....Lotus Elise. Steve
There was an Elise at MAM in October. That thing was keeping up with some pretty high horsepower cars including a Viper. The guy driving was not looking forward to the drive back up to Minneapolis - not too much padding. May as well be sitting on bare aluminum without any suspension, but you can't beat it for a track day car.
Yeah....something like that would be a weekend toy. Definately would not replace my wagon. I doubt I would ever get one....I just like to keep talking about it to torment my wife....
BEELOO! you still looking for a parking lot to play in??? well I am always on the lookout for new places to play in the snow. and I was going down 16th st ,on my way to check out the fair grounds when i looked off to the left to see a parking lot behind the first baptist church. there are 6 light polls, 2 sets of 3, but that what makes this lot great, you can drift 1 row like a figure eight with 1 more loop. I didnt get to do it a lot because I had to go to work, but I'm going back for sure! as soon as I can. if ya ever want some one to drive with let me know I LOVE THE SNOW!!
I'd be a little careful in that neighborhood. I worked right by there for a long time. The neighborhoods to the east and west are full of busy-body old gummers who have nothing better to do than peek out their windows and watch the world go by....and call ossifer friendly when it goes by doing 720's in their back yard. FYI....the big park/soccer complex to the north of the community college has some interesting round-a-bouts that are quite fun in the snow at a high rate of speed.....so I've heard anyway! 8) I've been trying to scout out some areas to but it seems like anything that is of reasonable size is either full of light posts or on a main drag somewhere. Steve
well that sucks! Are there any places out past fleet farm, I've never really gone out that way. I went out to those round-a-bouts once but there wasnt any snow left on em
I am relatively new to rochester so no idea where good places are at. However, if you find any, i'm game! We can 'search' for a place for fun, after work, if you guys are upto it? i usually leave at 5pmish and am on W Circle drive. let me know.
well, i called in sick today to recover my strength. I'm feeling better, just real weak from not eating much in the past 2 days. and like it's fair to be sick on the weekend and have to work on monday! so i can maybe be coaxed outside to the cold to nutz around or peruse a place to nutz around.
nabil, do ya just want to meet up tonight and drive around 'til we find a decent spot? anyone else???
yeah we could do that. I've got nothing going on tonite. just need to have dinner. unless you want to grab some grub while on this 'expedition'
i should just be home by ~7 when the gf gets hungry. or for Monday night football. how about hyvee north parking lot. name the time.
Sure everyone else works normal hours!! I work 5pm-5am anyone wanna go then??? j/k after tonight I have 7 days off, if anyone wants to go out then let me know. Did you guys find any places last night? I found a lot yesterday just north of roch. nothing around it but there isnt enough snow left on it, you would have to wait for a fresh snow.
yeah Mr. Sicko (pat) ended up being a no show. So no go as of yet. I think he works the same hours as you ^. I can go tomorrow night but am not sure if we will find anything as all the lots have be plowed. i leave for msp for thurs and not return till monday so all i have is tonite and tomorrow nite.
IT WAS MY GIRLFRIEND'S FAULT!!! anyway i work from 3pm to 1am and i'm asleep shortly thereafter. i try to keep a somewhat "normal" schedule. i'm sure that doesn't work out for anyone anyway. also, i'll be out of town the next few weekends...
