recently this summer i purchased my car (2006 WRX). during the summer i work my ass off at my job and save up some money so i can snowboard all winter, i love to snowboard and ive been doing it for about 10 years. with the wrx being a stereotypical snowboarder car i started hauling my buddies around with the boards in the back seat (because the seats dont fold down and the trunk is too small). this is where i knew that i had to save my interior and the get the boards on the roof. i have a few buddies that have had good luck with yakima so i started looking there. i had my car fitted online with their application and it came time to check out. since you cant order straight from yakima you have to choose a local dealer or an online dealer. i checked each of their listed authorized dealers and i came upon the site called rackattack.com. after doing more research they ended up having everything i needed for a totall of 100 dollars less that msrp. PLUS they shipped it for FREE and it only took 5 days, and i paid NO taxes, all said and done it was about 400 dollars with a fairing, which was loads less than any where else i had looked. so the point of this thread is to point out that rackattack.com is a really good place if your looking for a roof rack setup for your car, whether or not it is a subie. no im not affiliated with rack attack at all, i am just a customer within the last month, and i am very pleased with what they offered and what i got. i hope you guys consider buying from them, here are a few pictures of my setup now.

Nice setup, car looks great too.

I picked up my first Yakima setup from rackattack.com as well and could not find a better deal anywhere.

careful with those door roof racks. i know a lot of people who have them and it chips the paint very easily! Needless to say a lot of my instructor friends at afton have rust on their doors now.

I have a Yakima roof rack and have two scratches from the clips. They aren't thru all the paint, so no rust, but still, white scratches on my WRB paint. Simple word of caution is to get help setting the bars on and taking them off if you have someone around. If not, just be sure the clamps on the towers are open and the clips loose when you set them on or lift them off. Especially true if you put on bike racks in the summer. I have a 4 bike setup that gets a bit heavy to lift on/off by myself. Enjoy!

^^^ as well you can get that rubber stuff and dip the clips in rubber to try and help protect the car.

My clips don't touch paint at all on my thule. They grab the window frame. So unless newer impreza's have a different design I wouldn't be too worried about scratches

i don't have one so i am not sure how they hook up on your car. i have just seen a few of my friends cars with negative impact. As well subaru makes roof racks that bolt to the top of the roof. i am not sure what years of the WRX have this option. but the 09' have it built right into the roof. so there is less of a chance of ruining the paint. i know they are more expensive, but you run less of a risk of damaging your car.
