wotboy said he'd replace the timing belt in my '93 Legacy for me just so long as I stood there drinking beer and talking at him while he did it. He didn't mention if I'd have to buy him beer also but I think he assumed it so I'll be sure to buy extra tall cans of Old Milwaukee to ply him with.

Thanks to 3rik and Wall of TVs I have secured a timing belt for use in the process but Mr. Wotboy is in need of instructions to go about the process because he only knows about cars from the 21st century.

I found a link to a bunch of Subaru Factory Service Manuals:
    http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=8399&highlight=service+manual

There are links in there to 1992 Legacy data - will that work for changing this part on a '93? Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe my '93 Legacy has the EJ20 engine in it (I apologize for my lack of knowledge but I'm super dumb about cars and that's why I post questions here).

Help a brother out with the data I need to provide to wotboy to allow him to make this swap. I'm looking at you, phi11.

93 Legacy will be the EJ22E engine. Changing the timing belt on these SOHC's is a piece of cake. Nothing has changed from any current t-belt except the tensioner assembly which changed in ~98. If you aren't replacing the tensioner, use a vice/press to SLOWLY compress the rod in. Then use an allen key/hardened pin to retain it until you have installed the belt.
That service manual will be correct for a 93 as 1st gen legacys are 89-94.

Thank you for the info - particularly the bit about the 1st gen Legacy's being from '89 - '94. I think Mike knows how to do the swap, the service manual will just be necessary to get the actual timing right. I haven't looked in the box I received from the dealership with the belt to know if it came with a tensioner or not. We'll swap out as much or as little as is needed - I'll leave that decision up to wotboy.

That silly Dr. Wankel doesn't even know how to spell his own name.
