Just curious if the 05 STi's come with a factory short throw shifter. I own one, and it seems like a very short throw, but I am wondering if the short throw shifter advertised in the SPT magazines is the 'true' short throw. I once drove an 05 STi with a titanium shift knob, and what the salesman told me was a short throw. This was a few months before I bought mine. Surprisingly, the smaller shift knob makes things feel a bit different, but I honestly can't recall there being much difference between mine and that other one that I drove. Hard to say though, since I drove that other one back in about November and bought mine just recently.

I believe... and i may be wrong. But i believe the STi is a short throw from factory on STis. Its not as much as an after market would be. But it is notice difference from an WRX.

Cool, yeah, that is what I was thinking, because I definitely noticed a difference from stock WRX's---wasn't sure though. Might be somewhere in the middle...

Kartboy advertises something like 30% throw reduction, the upgraded WRX shifter / STI shifter (? hadn't heard they were short throw, stock) are a 10% reduction

NO, not all STI's come with a SS assembly. It is a factory option. The assembly includes the shift linkage and the lever. The throw is advertised as ~30$ less than stock. If you already have the factory SS assembly, you can still get an aftermarket lever to reduce the throw even more. However, If you already have the factory option short shift assembly (as seen here: https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/product_info.php?products_id=708) you would probably be better served with just upgraded the bushings. They will make a noticebale difference (in feel).

BTW, if you don't have the factory assembly and are looking to buy one, don't use the link I posted... much better deals out there.
