Then you should make it so that you can turn them on. I don't want to have to turn stupid crap off just because you want to see it. Set the default to be OFF.

There was talk about something like signatures for the MNSOC people, but I think that topic quickly feel apart. Everytime the signatures have been brought up they quickly get shot down. Most complain about potential clutter
Wouldn't the ability to turn them off remove any clutter problems? Or to make the clutter complaining population happy, set them to the "off" setting by default?
Can something be set up so a user's garage entry is one of the tabs under the member profile? Right now the garage is completely disconnected, it seems pretty useless. Point being, if you want to see someone's car/mods, you should be able to click on their name and find that info. With the amount of postwhoring that goes on here, it is beyond me why anyone would want to see even more crap added in to every single post. But as long as it can be turned off, have at it...

Sigs prove who haz mostest wittierness. Bring out the sigs. "Clutter" on the internet? The innarwebz define clutter.
Keeping sigs to text-only and a limit of numbers of characters allows users to display creativity and wit yet stops things from getting out of hand. Small-sigs for the win. The big sigs and funny pics belong at other sites.
Great points. Integrating the garage could be a good way to discourage long (annoying) "mod list" signatures also. Although if sigs were optional (which I would prefer) it wouldn't be an argueable issue anyway. Character only with a character limit is a great idea too... so long as I'm not being linked to an online poker scam or something...

you're really complaining about how hard it is to disable signatures? and complaining about the clutter, yet you've got that huge obnoxious avatar?! it took me less than 15 seconds on my dail-up connection. click "user options" uncheck "show signatures", then click save. and you're done. we're talking about it, and we may try a one-line, no formatting sig like they do on RS25.
Uh, do you see me complaining? More like giving my input. Avatars have a size limit. You know, that pixel thing that computers use to display. This is what makes mine is the exact same size as yours. Here it is spelled out a little more for you, since you obviously didn't get it the first time. The uglier this forum looks "by default" the less people you are going to have visit and stay. Period. People are lazy and won't take the time to find the "disable signature" section of he user prefs. Hell, they can't even find the search button.
^disableing is a perminate (spelling???on both) option. and i really dont think a line of nothing really never really hurt anyone. sometimes with the search button people dont know how to get the search to work if they want a specific answer and it takes alot of time and so on. you cant even compare having a perminate (spelling) 'disable signature' button to a sometimes hard to navigate search feature. it makes no sense. and besides having sigs add personality to the board. as good funny bad or ridiculus a sig may be it is still personality on the forums. expeciallyon this white and blue default skin thats already pretty boring as it is (((SPELLING)))
Ummmmm... You just proved Nate's point that some member's have a hard time navigating and comprehending the user options available. What exactly are you thinking is permanent? He's asking that every user has the option to turn the signatures off. Same as how we currently have the option to turn avatars off. Additionally, he is asking that the default setting is to have the signatures turned off. Any user, if so inclined, would have the option to turn the signatures on. Are youworried that new users would never know that signatures existed if they were set to "off" as a default? I'm sure that could be addressed in many ways (sticky, pm to all members from admin, pop-up window, etc...).
yea, sounds like a complaint to me. I even thought for a minute that we had more than one person with a strong opinion about it. nope, you'd just quoted yourself to emphasize your own point. yep, and my avatar has a picture of my subaru here on the MNSubaru boards. Just like my sig will have info related to my subaru and what I do with it. I still think yours is more obnoxious than any South Park quote could be. the new user argument is a good one. but was very much not brought up. your posts were very specific in saying that you didn't want to look at them. in that aspect, we may be able to disable sigs for guests. But I think it would be a good idea to encourage new users to use their sigs to tell some info about their car, so that when they inevitably post a question about said car, and more than likely neglect to tell us what car it is, we won't have to ask. of course, the same could be said about the "Location" line :roll: the signature function is far from permanent. that little check box is one click away no matter where you are in the site. AND, even if it's disabled, if a user has a sig assigned to their profile, it can be seen by viewing that individual's profile, without messing with the settings at all.

This section of the forums is for people to give their opinion on issues addressed, which I did. Yes, and I'm not the only one with this opinion, I can guarantee that. I felt the need to say something strong, because this thread is littered with people asking for signatures. Just because a few people are loud about their opinion does not mean they represent a large portion of the members on the website. People who like the current no signatures configuration are not going to start threads saying so.

I will pitch in and say sigs blow. Keep the look clean. I don't want to read the same sig over and over when someone is active in a thread. More scrolling sucks. (((SPELLING)))
The best part is, that when sigs come back, they will be a single line of text. No pictures, no colors, no different sizes, just a plain single line of text. They were taken away before for a reason. Just like the avatars. People can't figure out how to not piss in everyone's wheaties. You use stupid avs, they get banned. You use stupid sigs, they get banned. You complained about not having avs and sigs. You got the avs back, and people are STILL posting avs they shouldn't be. In the past week, the mod team has taken down 2-3 of them. Start bitching about single line sigs in 3..... 2....... 1........ GO
ugh.....if there are all these people who don't like them. let them speak up, this thread has been here for awhile. but for now, the few of you can just suck it up and disable them yourself. then you should spend more time in the threads that actually have something to do with subarus
