i'm anti sig, don't really need to read the same stupid thing over and over again on peoples posts, and it just stretches the posts out so you have to wade through more pages. it's on plenty of other boards and is generally annoying. anyhow, click... they're off. thanks for having that option!
Russ, just wondering if the Mod team has discussed advertising in signatures. Like having links in your sig... I don't see a problem with a shop advertising their services or linking to their website since there is no vendor status (free of charge) on this site, but what about malicious links? A member got banned not long ago for rick-rolling in a thread. One could easily do the same in their sig and have it go unnoticed for a while. Any preemptive plans in that regard? They have. Myself included. Are you selectively reading? Also, you really are being a crabby Debbie Downer. The several suggestions to set signatures to "off" as a default is, in my mind, a compromise that would please the majority of the masses. It's a suggestion made in the spirit of solidarity and the greater good. You are coming off as a real ass by telling members to "suck it up and deal with it." I understand its a tough job to try to please everyone, but this suggestion is working towards that end, and your thoughtless dismissal of this suggestion is coming off as very abrasive. Also, it wouldn't take the admin more than a couple keystrokes to set up (I understand these things can take a lot of volunteered time and effort). Just sayin. And to the point about using the sig to talk about your car. How much can one say about their car in one line of text. Wouldn't it make sense to use another user information box under the avatar that says "your car" instead? Further, isn't this what the vbgarage is for? To give more details about your car? Which brings up a completely separate point. Maybe by bridging the gaps between the resources already available to us would help this site. For example, the current "friends list." I haven't found any useful functionality in it. It could be made useful if there was a drop-down under the "recipients" heading when you send a pm so that a mass email could go out to your friends list. Also, the vbgarage I mentioned earlier. Not many people use it, and the people I have talked to either don't know about it, or don't care to use it since not many people look at it. How about putting a link to the vbgarage in the signature, or in the drop-down when you click on a user's name, or even a hyperlink on a users "your car" line.

I'll say that sigs are annoying. People have a whole page as their sig sometimes and I want to punch them in the face. A few lines with no pics is fine. I like how the BBS is set up. When people start listing their mods in sigs is when I start to get annoyed. We have all kinds of other places for that crap.
I honestly do not understand the problem here. Turn signatures on, make them one line only or whatever you want to do, have an option to not display them for the people who don't want to see them. Whoa, you just satisfied both sides of the argument that easily. That would be the end of this thread. ...and Chux, really? I haven't been in this thread for a while. Chux: You're making a very good point about why you shouldn't be a moderator on here. For someone who's supposed to uphold the rules on here, you sure are aggressive and confrontational with people for little or no reason. If you can't control your temper tantrums, you should probably think of stepping down. As for the signature thing, I think that the option to shut them off should be available to those who don't want to see it. This seems like a very good compromise. If possible, make sure that the option is readily seen like the "disable avatar" option is. Maybe put them in the same menu?
tell me which ones on tis site are those!!!! then I will venture there.. other then that if I want info or anything worthwhile I willpm the right people or go to teh forester forum.. simple
we're currently playing with the signatures and tryin to figure out the coding for formatting issues, etc etc... just know we're working on them. we'll have an official annoucement when they go live. FYI- you may see some of the mods including myself with signatures...as we figure out the bugs
