Anyone know about this guy? I guess he has already (aledgedly) been through Minnesota at this point. Shane Leonard https://www.thedrive.com/news/44666...ppears-with-customers-engines-and-cash-report
I saw a video and saw some buzz about it on the book of faces. Pretty wild. Found this kinda hilarious in that article you posted: "One of those affected, Austin Burton, told The Drive that he had refinanced his house to afford his "dream" build of a 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX, which had been in Leonard's hands since September 2019. Last week, he visited SL Performance to retrieve his WRX, only to find it was one of the cars without an engine, never mind many of the other parts he'd paid for. In all, Burton was out close to $28,000." Really? Jesus, dude.
Yeah, don't get me wrong I don't feel bad for most of the people complaining loudest. One dude refinanced his house, One dude "borrowed" money from his kid's college savings allegedly and someone claimed they had an original 22b engine in their car. But Hey! There's probably a bunch of cheap Colorado rollers available now(or morbidly expensive)
I think this guy made "The Drive", absolutely wild. I'm trying hard to separate the scaryness of mixing your house and car loans with these people clearly having been taken advantage of. Obviously a bit risky, and not for any of us, but I guess I could see some tax advantages from home loan interest being deductible? I mean also yea don't borrow from your kids college fund... But holy hell the karma is going to catch up with this Leonard guy hard. Having this forum was a huge relief to find a place like JM when my WRX needed the timing belt redone.
I vaguely remember some sheisty business practices like this from a thread about Scoobie Surgeons from a while back. Maybe not as bad as this, but still shady.
There was posts on FB about this that lead me to believe this may be round 2 for said individual. They said he potentially scammed a bunch of people in Iowa too.
Remember - there are lots of shady / unethical dealerships around too. I bought a car that I towed out of a Subaru dealerships lot, the dealership told the owner of the car that it needed a motor and had chunks of metal in the oil after it went in for having a radiator hose come loose after their kid tried to put aftermarket hoses on it. The pan turned out to be perfectly clean. Filled it with oil and coolant again and put 60k on the car.
Hmmm. I am staying down by the quad cities for the next couple of months. I’ll have to keep an eye out for this black RS!
Hahaha, consider it done! I know how to remove it and have a white cargo van to transport it back to MN.
If I was that guy I'd get plastic surgery and get a new face. It's truly the only way he would remotely get away with this. Its just a matter of time and carma will catch up with him.
