BTW, you have no idea what snow is. I invite you to visit me in Green Bay today, we have probably 2 feet on the ground and it's going to be snowing hard for another 3 hours.
unfortunately, i don't have my camera, I might be able to capture it on my cellphone, but the pics will be crappy. I'll see what i can do. It's insane here right now. I'm snowed in.
I am incredibly jealous, up here in Fargo we have maybe an inch, and the wind chills are pushing -30 to -40 at night :unamused:
Yeah, I understand how and why it's happening, but I've never had a car where it happened this easily. I was more wondering if it was a common occurrence for Subaru owners. Looks like I'll just have to deal with it for a few days after each hooning session. Oh well...
I can't seem to send pics from my phone like i want. I'll have to wait till i get home or something. Just trust me, it's nasty here.
I'm still stuck in Oconomowoc Wisconsin due to the closing of 94 between Madison and Eau Claire. I ran to the store this morning and my brakes were frozen up, I had to hammer on em and heat em up before they would grab. I can tell you though that the car is amazing in the snow, I may or may not have taken part in some parking lot shenanigans this afternoon. I can say though if these said shenanagens had occured, I'm pretty sure they would have been fun.
Hopefully people crack up the subies!!!!! it means $$$$$$$ for me, (obviously I dont wish harm upon anyone, nor do a wish for total losses) Drive safe, but if you are going to hit something, hit another subaru!
The real bitch of it is, I can't even be out hooning if I'm stuck inside with Christmas celebration! Note to self: Refrain from booze during celebration to allow massive hoonage afterwards.
The storm is supposed to start tonight and carry into Saturday, so you should be able to sneak in some hoonage, lol. I should be able to talk more family members into getting winter tires at the Christmas get-together. It is my personal vendetta to get everyone and their mother into winter tires.
But the best time is when it first starts dumping (tonight hopefully). Gotta get out there before the plows and the salt trucks. Also need to hit the good lots before it gets too deep and rutted up by other Subarus lol
I can just imagine it now... "I'll drive Grandma home. If I'm not back in 2 hours, call a tow truck and start scouring parking lots." I've unknowingly joined you in the winter tires mission. Ever since my first set of winter tires, I'll never go back. I've been trying my damndest to convince everybody else to get them. Strangely enough, mentioning "I lived in Duluth and never got stuck once" is fairly convincing.
i have unnowingly joined the mission as well, this is my first winter with winter tires, and wow, what a difference. i have since been trying to convince all of my friends and family to get a set
I am flying out to Colorado on Christmas Day, I have a bad feeling that my flight is going to get delayed/canceled.
During the six years I lived in Duluth, I got stuck twice. Both times were on all seasons. Once was due to cockiness and high-centering the car in a 4' snowbank. My sister's Legacy will be on fresh Altimaxs so if people want to try it out, it will be as good as it gets.
During my 3.5 years in D-town, I've never been stuck, but I had once where my car was stopped and the tires were spinning. I actually got out of my car and looked at it sitting there spinning the tires at idle. On all-seasons. I took my driving pretty gingerly and occasionally didn't leave for fear of getting stuck, but what really did it for me was sliding down hills in snow, unable to stop. Fast forward to a full set of Winterforces (~$44 each from Expert Tire FTW) and I NEVER hesitated to drive and always was in control. Now it's brand new Altimax Arctics on the Legacy, and it goes like a stabbed rat.
I have to drive home for xmas tomorrow morning... to Illinois I go!!! I'm packing a shovel, food, water, blankets, and a lighter. I'll let you know if I come back
i'm a little nervous beings it's going to be my first actual bad driving with the subaru, and for the fact its an auto 2.2l on all seasons... but i have made it through some bad stuff in a slammed crx, and with my gf's taurus that's rocking crappy fusion hris.. I just dont wanna be stuck in Fergus Falls when i go down there, cause if i miss out on the worst part of the snowfall up in Fargo and all the shenanigans that'll be going down i'll be sad, lol.
well that makes me feel a lot better I'm kinda worried about next year more so, if I swap it... I was riding in my buddies 04 wrx with a stage 2 done, and with winter tires it seemed to just float around on the road when he'd get on it..
Just keep your stopping distance long, don't corner too damn hard in traffic, and you'll be fine. ...but I still recommend some good winter tires.
take corners easy and brake well in advance and you wont have any problems with her. and if u stat going in the ditch put her to the boards and you will be fine its when u slow down that u get screwed
i have a 2.2 auto, and just threw a set of blizzaks on it, and sadly it kinda takes the fun out winter (in a good way) they just grab and go. with the all seasons it likes to get tail happy, but with the blizzaks it doesn't even want to spin when i want it to..
Winter tires don't take the fun out of winter, you just need more snow to slide the car. But you have the control when you want it. 300whp helps too.
I usually practice that in all cars... It's still a little weird when it gets sideways, i'm used to letting off and straightening out (FWD cars), instead of just staying in it and it straightening itself out... I would buy winter tires, but I dont wanna spend the money on them when i hopefully won't have these 15" wheels next year. (Trying to do all i can to save up for a swap and wrx brakes, meaning IIRC only 16" wheels next year, since i'm wont have enough left for really nice 15's that clear the brakes)
