Ive been caught in a few of the situations as well where there was a snow bank and had i not had snow tires and the ability to accel and a decent rate i would have been crushed. I guess this also brings up the rant..how about the cities/countie/state snow removal work on getting some of these high traffic area snow banks knocked down. This also brings the rant along that funds being cut is the main factor in this not happeingin...
My step mom (who isn't the best driver) lost the whole front end of her car last month because of this. She couldn't see so she creeped out a little bit and BAM! No more front end.
Yeah, that's the reason I'm not driving the rsvx anymore... not because I was hit, but because I can't see over the snow banks to get out of my alley or onto any street that's not a 4-way or controlled by a light. The lgt is pretty tough too. But it doesn't sit as low as the impreza and it doesn't have a fixed, lower seat in it either. Luckily we have the 4runner. After this winter, I completely understand why so many people drive suvs and trucks up here now.
problem is that most dumbasses who do have winter tires also feel their driving skills improve the same 30%... it just aint so... I loved my Forester in snow.. I felt safe... I had winter tires.. but I drove to suit the conditions... I have a Landcrusier now... I feel safe in it.. but it is heavier. top heavy and has all seasons... again I drive to suit the road/weather conditions... doesnt matter how good a tire you have if you are driving too fast for the conditions a pole is a pole, another vehicle still hurts regardless what tires you have... Im all for dedicated tires but I cannot stand the false sense of reality (especially in the awd crowd) that a persons ability increases too....
