Just a bit of a heads up. We are generating about 150-200 new spam user accounts a day. These are the ones that actually make it past the Q&A section AND VERIFY their email. So there is a real person and a real email attached to these accounts. I spent about 2 hours getting caught up with all the user account from over the weekend and I just spend another hour on the new ones from today. So, the hammer is being dropped. IP bans are in effect (about 10 so far), email address bans are in effect (about 5), and I have added new Q&A questions. I am going to add more Q&A questions and they are going to be very MNS oriented and a bit tougher. The IP bans are kinda hard core. I am blocking HUGE chunks of IP, such as xxx.xxx.* (everything from the * down is being banned). I have banned a couple of school districts. Spring lake park district being one of them. If you can get on though these IP's, let your IT guy know they are part of a botnet and to fix it. Email bans are kinda the same way. So far they are not your normal emails, but as soons as I get their pattern down, I will also be adding hotmail and gmail addresses. Q&A questions. I will be adding more and they will not be the simple math or location ones. If you can't figure it out (if you are a guest), you better find a member who can. I WILL NOT give out answers to the questions through the support email account. At this point, I am not even sure who is real and who is a bot anymore. User profiles. This is your 1st and ONLY warning on this. If you have any payday loans, insurance quotes, medical advice, prescription drugs or any other "links" in your profile or signature, your account will be deleted. Not banned, deleted. I already deleted about 150 accounts and when I have more time I am going after more. XF's spam finder says there are about 200 more that I need to go through. Lastly, if you see anyone posting that looks like spam, please report it. At this point, what the bot are trying to do is create backlinks to their crap. so instead of even posting spam crap in the forums (which most of you will complain about), they are creating links in their user profiles and signatures. Then google indexes the site (including the members profiles), and they get their backlinks. Their page rank goes up and they get paid more. If you have any questions or comments, please post away.
