They did. Saw it in a Handicapped spot at Walmart 1st thought it was whiskey plates until I walked by it and saw COLLECTOR in the bottom I may be mistaken on the numbers on the plate could be 6 or could of been 7 im sure not all collector plates are 7 just like not ALL MN plates were 6 back in the 50s MN plates had 3 letters 4 numbers.

He's poking fun at the fact that someone would put collector plates on such a terrible pos. That said, "collector" plates are a bit of a misnomer. They should just be called "old ass car plates" or something similar since theres no requirement for putting them on non "collectible" cars.

Fwiw, both of my collector plates are 6 digits and i just got them because theyre cheaper than regular plates with expiring tabs and neither car has a license plate bracket on the front bumper.

To that point, many cars come from the factory with no fromt plate attachment point or no holes drilled for a plate. This can be an issue (albeit an easily solveable one) when purchasing a car from a state with no front plate law.

They say the collector plates are "restricted use only" question is if you drive it daily say your commuter car or your winter car how the hell would the police or DVS know the difference?

Some specialty plates do i think its a couple of CHPs and tje RVID plates i THINK even the Support our Troops plates. Not sure on the latter though.
    Thank you for the definition.
how is that possible? MN only allows 7 characters on Vanilty plates 6 on Motorcycle plates

They wouldn't. The idea is, the state gives you a break on old cars from having to pay annual registration fees, extra plate fees, emissions (where applicable), and so on in exchange for your agreement to use it for shows, parades, special occasions, etc... it's very difficult to enforce such broad guidelines. I'm not even sure if there's a citation for it. Certainly some people use it as a "loophole." For me, I drive less than 5k miles a year. So even if I drove one of the collector plated cars daily, it would still be very low mile. They're both a real pain in the dick to drive in anything but nice weather anyway, so there's that too.

I guess if you really wanted to skip out on paying tabs every year, you could daily drive a 50 billion mile per gallon 20 year old civic as your second vehicle. It would be all fun and games until you get stapled to a guardrail by a semi that doesn't see you or have an escalade drive over your roof like monster truck rally when they rear end you.
