Hahaha. Hey no problem. I'm glad I was able to make it out and really test that new camcorder. You were looking pretty good during those runs.

You must have me confused with the 2011 STI Sedan. He looked like he was really moving. I was in the 2011 WRX Hatch. Despite my best efforts, I was apparently very slow. :(

I've found that the laps that feel fast are usually slow and the ones that feel slow are usually fast. IMO all that matters is staying safe and having fun! I did look like you were getting faster throughout the day, though. Hope to see you out there again!

My second lap on each setup was always faster than the first, so that's a good sign. I'm curious to see all the numbers, though.

Swapped back to my summer wheels and lowered it again last night. Sprayed the fenders with a hose and gave them a quick scrub with a brush. The touch up you did looks like it held up well, but it was getting dark so I'll have to take another look tonight. Might also want to have you take a look at the cracked bumper, but I fear that isn't much that can be done.

Fleetwood collision in Nowthen MN fixed my crack and shaved the front license plate bracket off for me did a great job.

Do you remember how much? Who did you work with? I'm currently shopping for quotes to fix a gouged front bumper (1" gash about 1/4" deep) as well as fill in the license plate holes and respray the whole thing. Thanks!

I'll have some vids coming up later today. I have my in-car footage from my runs, and I took a series of clips of some of the M4/PA cars running across the last half of the course after my runs (was first in line), unfortunately not a lot of your guys cars. I need to piece together the clips and upload everything to Youtube. I'll have all this done a little later today.

I had a great time participating in my first rallycross, and have the sunburn to prove it. BIG thanks to Emily (ylime) for letting me drive her Hyundai of doom. Even came home with a podium finish. Not bad for an Evo driver.

Will there be results posted on the SCCA-LOL site or anything?

Typically yes, but the 2011 season is a bit slow. Whoever takes care of the website has not done anything for the year and the end of last year.

I'd be interested at looking at all the times, but I'm sure everyone's busy, so no rush.

I did pretty poorly on the technical stuff, but I liked it when they straightened out some of the kinks and I actually got to step on it a little :)

A bigger question is why weren't you on the gas more? A big part of being fast is knowing when and how much you can really put down. Often, it's a lot more than you think. Even when cornering, awd allows the benefit of some pull on throttle as long as the amount is low. A lot of times, you simply peg the throttle and hold it there till you really, really have to brake. Two of the hardest things I've overcome getting into the sport is (a) reading ahead on the course and (b) making sure I'm putting down as much throttle as I can get away with. Part A is just a little unnatural at first. It takes practice to think less about the now and invest thought into planning for what's ahead. Part B is simply learning to push the car more than your mind says is ok and learning to keep attempting to feed throttle even when it's not appropriate. It's not pedal to the floor stuff and going way wide on corners. You back off as needed, but it's just the concept of trying and trying again and getting away with whatever you can. It really falls back on a much more basic idea of pushing your car near 10/10ths and you trying to keep the thing there for a much of the course as possible. Part of that is cornering as fast as you can. Part of that is braking as late and hard as you can or at times combining braking and steering at optimal proportions. Part of that is applying as much throttle as you can. The awd platform allows a lot to get down. Frankly, I could see a 400 ft-lbs package as useful even on dirt simply because there is enough grip there during 2nd gear. My bro's FXT does 300 ft-lbs, and I want more still. My NA only does about 145 ft-lbs to the wheels and you better believe it my foots pegged as much as possible. Even with my bro's FXT, my foot is to the floor most of the time unless I'm braking or have to hold a turn. Even when cornering, I'm on the throttle a small bit to pull the car. Power down to the ground means speed.

My car is around that 400WTQ range and I felt like I had to be really light with it in first gear, but second I could put it down pretty good (and was a lot of fun!). I think my hardest thing was deciding what gear to be in. In second I seemed to drop out of the power band quite a lot, but first wasn't tall enough to make it to the next turn.

The first run I kept it in second all the way through, but some spots really felt slow. By the end of the day I was staying in first through the tight stuff at the beginning and then going into second until the hairpin. I'd shift down to first to come out of the hairpin and then back into second for the rest.

It sounded like you were heel-toe'ing it back into first as you were braking into the hairpin. This seemed ideal, but I'm not too good at that yet. I think if I just keep doing them I'll start picking up on things, but more tips are always welcome. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to clutter the thread.

There is alot of truth in this statement. I learned a great deal last season when Mark drove my car. Seeing just how far you can push the car and how fast it an really be at the limit is an eye opener. It really comes down to staying on the power as much as you can. Not lifting for corners is a huge part of this and something that I really need to work on (very evident at this last rally-x). Keep the foot to the floor and finese the car around the cones as best you can while staying on the throttle.

I found plenty of grip on this course (except from by the water crossing spot on the first run group). I was actually dialing back the DCCD in the car since there was so much grip. I had almost no issues with first gear, second gear was phenomenal. I ended up shifting from first after turn 2 and keeping it in second until the turnaround at that far corner. At the hairpin I dropped to first and gave a good flick, but in hind sight I probably could have left it in second.

All in all it was a great time and a ton of fun, which is the sole reason I am out there.

Thank you everyone for bearing with the major course change at the beginning and all the delays. By the power of the 3 Gingers, we got it done. This was my first time event mastering, and I had a great time! The trophies will be mailed out this week to all the podium finishers, along with the gift certificates to Maaco in Minneapolis for the first place finishers. Big, big thanks to Mark Kaufman, the owner/operator of Maaco in Minneapolis, for donating those to us!

Also a big thanks to Scotty with Chowgirls Catering in NE Minneapolis for donating his time and cooking skillz for all of us. We raised over $200 for the Animal Humane Society!!

If any of the podium finishers are planing to attend the Rallyfest tomorrow evening at Morrie's Minnetonka, find Tim Anderson (WRB '05 STi driver, #60) and he'll get you your awards! If your not sure what he looks like, just look for the plumber's crack.

Momentum has more to do with it than being in the power band. I stayed in 2nd gear in a couple places that would probably have been more comfortable being driven in 1st gear from a power standpoint, but because I already had traction and my foot to the floor going through the previous turn I just stayed in it. Had I downshifted it would have ruined some of the momentum and instead turned it into wheelspin. Slower is faster in a lot of cases, so just keep that in mind, keep your foot to the floor and be smooth. Throwing the car sideways and bogging it down is not the answer. It might be fun, but it's not fast. :)

Yep, tidy is fast. Typically if the car's sideways, it's slow. This isn't to say that you shouldn't be sliding around, but it should stay snug and clean where the drift angle is quite low or deliberate, i.e. pointing the direction of the exit. Even then, the idea is that you are still following a planned arc through the corner with a good understanding of the lateral braking force and longitudinal acceleration (mad tyte drifting yo!). Even then I still see the need to do so dependent on need which may depend on physical constraints. Tire bite characteristics play a role. Then there's even the issue of safety since we're talking rally-x here and rutting. I'm far less inclined to toss my car sideways because I have no desire to catch and lip and flip the car.

Just noticed that LOL has two websites with (about) the same info. Links are kind of messy with this. There is www.scca-lol.org which is where all the links go to, and then there's mnautosport.com/scca-lol/ that seems to be more up to date but where no links actually go to. You basically have to Google search and go direct off the search engine cache to even get to any of the pages. Is the LOL website going to the mnautosport site or are they a linked system of some sort? By more up to date I mean things like the Spring Fever still has registration open on the SCCA website but it's closed on the mnautosport version.

He speaks the truth. The biggest thing is that we aren't able to see any results for this year. I have access to the last event's results, but will ask those in charge if I can post them.

I think it's a matter of figuring out who used to do the website stuff, and if they are no longer performing that task for whatever reason, we need to find a new person to perform those duties. There seems to have been some "passing of the torch" going on, so maybe this is one of those things too. It was something that started the later part of last season and kind of stayed that way with no explanation.

We're addressing that issue as we speak. Also, the LOL webiste is going through a revamping so if you see something out of the oridinary just hang tight.

Bri- Go ahead and post the results for last month. From here on out I'll just manually post them to MNSubaru...until these issues get resolved.

Yeah, I went through the whole process of moving last years results to an archive, set up a page for this year's, formatted the first event and had it all online. Then someone completely wiped out all the changes I had made and wasted the time I'd put into it. Haven't had much time or frankly, motivation to do this since.
