So while I'm preparing for my 18G setup I kept having this in my mind. Does my SPT Catback Exhaust go well with the 18G turbo? Currently on stage II and 0-3k rpm already suck(w/the spt cbe). I have better low 0-3k with my N1 but thats a bit too loud for my daily driving. I will be running FMIC also. Also will be having GM BCS and lightweight pully(s). Trying to get rid of as much lag as I possibly could afford. So what do you guys think, Should I keep the SPT or go with a little more free flow? (recommanded exhaust for my set-up?) 02 WRx
The SPT is fine as far as flow goes. You're not going to have much boost below 3k on pretty much any turbo and the 2.0L. Honestly, if you're looking to fight lag, you should go with a TMIC.
So let me get this straight, you're going to be putting a significantly larger-than-stock turbo onto a car with a glass jaw of a transmission, and you're current biggest worry is the cat-back exhaust?
 Pot meet Kettle. Kong, you'll be fine with SPT. However, IMHO I'd rethink the whole IC set-up. As Nate mentioned, the TMIC will help reduce spool time and with a bigger turbo and a 2.0L the boost will be hard to find anywhere less than 3500 rpm anyways. Add a kabillion feet of charge pipe for the FMIC and it will only get worse. Now if you were tracking the car that might be a different story, but a daily driver....you'll want to reduce that lag as much as possible.
If he shifts easy he shoudn't have tooo many worries. If he shifts like a rally car....then it will go kaboom.
Dave brings up another great point, if you're that worried about lag, you wouldn't even consider a front-mount. That said, I would suggest an anti-lag system to eliminate all your lag and break more things faster.
