So taking apart my 2.0 short block and ran into a problem, i was trying to take out 4 "main" bolts connected to the back but they are not a hex head they are multi sided, i wouldnt call them star, but there is many sides. a 13 mm socket fit over it but i was wondering if there was a special attachment i need to get this apart, sorry for no pics but i was hoping someone has torn their block apart to know what im talking about.

Haha, hopefully you didn't damage anything trying to force it. Pulling the wrist pins can sometimes be a pain. The access plugs are a 14mm allen key.
Getting the outerboard cir-clip off isn't too bad with a needle nose. Then I've had good luck with a ~1/4" steel rod. bend a small 90* at one end and flatten it with a hammer/vice. Then put a large socket/heavy object with a hole in the middle on the rod and bend the other end, effectively making a slide hammer. Just be sure you use the hook between the gap of the inner circlip to prevent damage. Also be sure to keep each pin with their respective piston.

While I usually applaud DIY ethos with regard to engine work...you really need to do some research and get a detailed manual for the engine you are working on before you start putting it back together. You began pulling the engine apart without the proper tools. I can only imagine your heartbreak after you reassemble it and it takes a crap on you within the first 50 miles of use.

nothing was damaged the 14 was too big so we just went and got the right stuff and the 10mm part was a joke. everything came apart nicely found out it wasnt just a spun bearing but the head gasket must have been leaking cuz it was coated with coolant on the bottom end and smelled like ****! lol its just a secondary engine now and needs to get all cleaned up and new parts!
