How do you align your steering wheel? Mine is cocked to the right at about the 2 o'clock position when I'm going straight. I have no idea how to fix it.
Mine is cocked the same. I was searching for some info and found this: http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127 to not be very helpful.
Chances are you've got some toe-in or toe-out on one side or the other. Happens if you hit a curb or something and bend a tie rod slightly. You could undo that bolt on the steering assembly and straighten out your steering wheel, but that won't truely fix the problem. You'll need an alignment or your tires will wear more quickly.
What about if you had already gotten an alignment and the guy didn't straighten out the steering wheel first. This could be an issue too, no?
take it back to them and make them fix it! They did this to me at a Firestone and tried to tell me it was the crown of the road. I called them on bs (it was a friday at 6pm), they took it back in and fixed it - steering column bolt likely then.
My is turned to the right also, never has really bothered me I drive with one hand most the time, plus its easier to put my left arm on the window ledge and hold the wheel
Straightening the steering wheel is a BASIC part of a 4 wheel alignment. If anyone tells you otherwise they are BSing you. Often times if the THRUST is not aligned you can have a crooked steering wheel even though your toe is correct.
I need an alignment anyway. Cool, thanks. I guess I should make that appt with Jeff the alignment guy.
then he sucks at alignments.. part of the aligning process is you have to center the sw so then it can calculate the cross toe, then you make the adjustments... heck the machines walk you through it nowadays with pictures and everything
You were the guy that gave me my last alignment, Nate.:laugh::laugh: After I got the alignment (everything was fine, relax) I did my steering rack bushings and then proceeded to tear the front control arms off the car and beat the hell out of a lot of things. My mis-aligned steering wheel is my own doing. Now I just need someone to fix it.
