It wasn't me, but the BP across from my work on excelsior blvd in st.louis park---3.12 for regular, and I saw his receipt when he came back...3.46...seemed like a huge difference between regular compared to normal.

apparently the best is yet to come.

The real question here is, what else have you driven? STI's a lot of car for an 18 year old.

For those talking insurance, the big jump is from RS/i -> WRX, the STI is about the same .. give or take a couple bucks.

Either way, it still wont be favorable to you since you're so young.

If you're making your buying decision based on the relative fuel economy of a WRX vs. a STi you have a solution seeking a problem. MPG will be largely dictated by your right foot.

Further, making - at least in part - a vehicle buying decision based on whether it needs >91oct or 87oct tells me you should probably be looking for a less expensive car for lower total cost of ownership.

The WRX takes premium gas. It sounds as though you think that the STI is the only thing that takes premium gas. So that doesn't help your situation.

not sure if you are referring to me...but I know the wrx and many other non-turbo cars even take premium. it is what it is. I was well aware of it going into buying the car. just sucks that oil is at record prices right now. it would be easier to handle if the job market and everything else were better off.

I thought all of that through before trading in my non-turbo legacy gt to get an STI. I just didn't expect my job situation to hit the fan.

when gas is this expensive, the difference between regular and premium doesn't make that much of a difference anyways. the problem is that all of it is above 3 bucks a gallon.

Your fozzy is newer, no? That'd be a lot of it right there.

To be quite honest, when I was looking at cars...

    WRX 02/03, 130/mo insurance
    2006 2.5i, 130/mo insurance

Yes, I realize I should've sprung for a WRX instead. Too late now, can't exactly flip cars w/out taking a loss.

Yeah... 21, clean record, on parents plan (so housing discount, etc), 250 deductibles, full coverage = 130/mo.

apparently I should do some shopping?

    Get quotes on the insurance.

When I was shopping around when I got my 02' WRX, I was looking at 2 other cars as well...
One of which was a Dodge stratus R/T, which has a 3.0 liter motor.
Insurance would have cost me almost $100 more a month than the WRX, which is faster anyway...I'm guessing insurance goes by displacement sometimes?
I have heard insurance for an sti is much more than a regular WRX

I love the looks of my bugeye, but in the long run, you may be further ahead to look at something a little more up to date, I could be wrong, but I think Subaru started to beef up the manual transmission around 04' or so.

Last, but most definatly not least, don't forget to budget in maintanance costs.

Yes, and if you <3 LOVE<3 the bugeye, you can do a front end conversion pretty easy. Might cost you a few bucks though.

There is a Rally America car that had a face lift from an 02 to an 04. I would imagine that you can do it the other way too(04 into an 02).

You would need to buy new front fenders, headlights and supports?, bumper, grill, hood... Dedication to say the least.:)

But on the plus side...you'd have a much tougher bugeye with the drivetrain of the 04/05.
