So all I gathered is bigger turbo, injectors, water sprayers and bigger intercooler on the same EJ25. Also thicker stabilizer bars front and rear and the rest is pretty much Type-RA. Only will be available in WRB or CWP and only 200 will be available. I assume 100 in either color, oh and the WRB will come with Grey BBS rims and only the white car will get gold rims. https://www.subaru.com/naias2019?fb...J6WMjF-XEsWc4eBbSNy0RPjHD8E0mqzxbm0-2Fqd2X9Vs
Fingers crossed this will be the new horse power standard for the next-gens, whether they keep the EJ or switch to the FA.
Not super keen on the styling of the "fender flares" or whatever those are though, but I do like most everything else styling-wise. I still dislike the mirrors on the 15+....I dunno what it is, but I think it just looks goofy with them on the door like that - they should be on the corner of the A pillar/door. Bugs me lol And a price tag presumably around $60k - yikes. I guess that's the price of exclusivity though.
That HP level is easily achievable in previous generations by simply remapping the ECU with a Cobb OTS map or pro tune. The larger turbo, fuel pump, and injectors is a nice addition though, paired with forged internals. Perhaps this will be the new platform for coming generations. I really hope they do not switch to the FA...but I can't see it happening anyway.
Agreed. A very welcome change. Esp the pistons. Wouldn't be surprised if they keep the ej alive. Personally don't care either way and assume it'll be decades before aftermarket support dries up for the ej platform (if ever).
It was not too long ago that a higher up in Japan for Subaru was quoted as saying that 2019 was the last year for the EJ engine production. Have to look it up..
I remember that. I also remember them hinting at it the year before, and the gen before that. In any event, we'll see.
Just hit me, more horsepower than the new Supra. Only about 100 lbs weight difference if not mistaken.
Fender flares look like they were tacked on after a visit to Napa. As for the mirrors, eh, gotten used to them by now. True, just hoping to see Subaru make some actual improvements that come from the factory. Despite having not tuned my '17 WRX, I feel that a common complaint shouldn't be that either the STI or WRX need to be tuned immediately.

All the fuss isn't so much that there is a new S-model, but that it is the first S-model available in the States.
It's interesting. Very rare, so that makes it cool. I personally think it looks fantastic. I'd have to win the lottery to buy one though... You could be a collection of fun cars for the $60k this will cost. I do bet that nearly every single person who forked over $50k for an RA would gladly go back in time to buy one of these instead. If you were willing to spend $45k for an STI of any flavor, I'd expect you'd be MORE willing to spend a little more and get one of these.
Having a Type RA I would not want to go back in time and not buy it over the S209. To me it seems like Subaru underrated the Type RA so they could come out with the S209 and claim a huge bump in HP. Even though I know things have been retuned, it still feels like it to me. I think the fender flares look tacked on as an after thought, I hate the Ts style wing over the old RA wing, otherwise it is a sharp looking vehicle. I think the price will be about $55k. I am thinking though that this will be the new benchmark horsepower for the new STi.
They should have made 9 Blurple ones. (The color from 2011-2014) That is my all time favorite STi color. Agreed though, 209 of them would make sense.
Mine is still JBP. And i think that it would look amazing on an RA/S209 Edit: The blurple was/is an awesome color on the STi. I really liked it on @ryjacobs hatchback. Especially with the Advans...
I'd bet $100 they are 2 face taped on like most flares, I'd be surprised if they had clips on there with the tape.
'Trying' implies there is effort. But yes it's available if anyone wants it more than I do. It's arguably the same as the s209... Forged internals, open deck ej, high flow exhaust, injectors, probably the same hp level... But better because, e85, blurple, hatch. All the same bs for half the price.
I like it, I would love to have one sitting in the garage to drive, but there is no way I would pay the premium $$$ the stealerships are going to charge...and of course get because some people are going to pay 10/15/20/25k over MSRP to own it. The S209 at the very least should be 400HP, especially with the pistons, rods and larger turbo.
Take a look at this!(non-s209) http://jdm-expo.com/vehicle-inventory/455-subaru-impreza-sti-gdb-for-sale-japan.html
You know and I would need @STi_From_DSM to confirm this but when the black one was at Morrie's Minnetonka I would have pulled the trigger but could not get out from under my lease. At that time I was told that all cars fall under their "Buy Happy" program and they quoted me 50$ over invoice on the Type-RA. This was with management confirmation because I told the salesperson that I couldn't believe it as the CBP was the unicorn for the Type-RA having made only 50 in black. He consulted with the manager and confirmed.
S209 is a completely different car though, my guess would be they wouldn't do a buy happy on them...I would like to find ordering info on the S209 just to see...
Unless it was a mistake at my last oil change I am not enrolled in the Buy Happy with the RA. I would have to check my paperwork though to confirm. I only drive about 9k miles a year though, so I do not do that many oil changes, and I definitely do not bring this one through the car wash there as I don't want to scratch the CF.
Lol, no. I mean if I got the same current deal I had on the RA I would entertain it, but I doubt that would happen.
