I have already talked to some of the guys at the calhoun meet but i got some questions about putting the sti tmic on the wrx. I have a 04 sti tmic and i have a 03 wrx. does the sti tmic just drop right in or do i need to order new hoses for the conversion? i have been told yes and i have read no on other forums. my car has exhaust mods like new cat less down pipe and up pipe with external waste gate. my turbo is stock and everything leading up to it is stock. do i need to get my car tuned when i do put the sti tmic on?

Tune not required but to get ant performance gains you will need a retune. The ypipe on the bottom of the intercooler is differnt so as long as it came with the y pipe and a 90deg coupler you will.be good to go.

yes that will work fine. make sure you get new gaskets for when you bolt the ypipe on or you will increase your chances of a boost leak.

The stock sti tmic elbow doesnt fit tdo4 or other mitsubishi comp housings. Fits all other vf turbos though. Just replace the elbow and it should fit.
As for tuning. You dont NEED one. But optional if squeezing every little pony out of it.

It will fit with out the longer elbow if you dont fasten the intercooler down.

I would agree on not buying more turbos then are needed, but aren't most of the vf series about the same? Is there really a big diff between the 39 and 48?

well thats good to know. but what about the cracking on the 39 does that have any effect on boost? i run a external wastegate so it would be shut all the time. its another reason i was looking for the 43 or 48. also heard that the 43 are a little hard to find

I found a vf48 for sale for 300. its got a crack in it and i just wanted to know what you guys think. its no small crack and looks like it could go all the way to the wheel. is something like this repairable or not? and should i pass up on the deal?
