Ok, so recently I've been smelling a burnt oil smell coming from somewhere. today it got really bad, so I took a closer look and noticed it was coming from what looks to be the breather tube, on top of the tranny Of my 2004 sti. The oil has been running from the top all over the side to the bottom. I pulled the dipstick and oil is at normal level but smells burnt as f*#k! Also, when I drive at low speeds around 10mph I hear all sorts of humming/ grinding noises that weren't there before. However, the tranny shifts in all gears smoothly.

So my question is wtf would cause this? I bought an sti to avoid problems like the 3 trannys I replaced in my wrx...

Also should ad; I notice a squealing sound while accelerating slowly And a grinding sound (like worn out brake pads on metal rotors) while coasting at 15mph in neutral.

What tranny fluid have you been using? When was the last time it was changed?

This car was bought from Aspitfire On here and was maintained properly.

    Only Extra-S was used...about 15k on fluid.

Is there a good shop or anyone I could take this to on here to get it diagnosed/rebuilt?

New update: I noticed at 40 mph, if I put car in nutral and cut the ignition off, the noise goes away. Then if I turn ignition back on (without starting it) while still coasting in nutral the noise comes back. Wth?

    Idea's?

The DCCD clutch pack is electronically actuated

Hmm...also noticed I can adjust the dccd with no change in sound.

What happened that you needed to replace 3 transmissions in your wrx?

Sounds like either the DCCD is borked or maybe the electronic controller is.

Same as always, NF or RS could do it. Someone on here also got Full Blown to rebuild their 6 speed but I don't have any personal experience with them.
