Like-new strut tower brace with flexible center joint to stiffen up your front end without sacrificing comfort. Great for MN roads! Really is a noticeable difference compared to rigid bars from Perrin and other manuf's. Came off my 2013 WRX hatch, used for a few thousand miles and pulled off before selling the vehicle. Seems to fit other vehicles but I am having difficulty confirming fitment for crosstreks, legacies, Forester XT; happy to meet up and try fitment before purchase for serious inquiries.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm guessing that, it is connected with a bushing of some type at the center so it allows for some movement but will only flex so far. Not as stiff as as a 1 piece strut bar, but adds some rigidity as compared to not having one.
@curly2k3 thanks for the question, I agree that it is a deceiving concept but it is definitely backed by physics. Here's a video to start with: I suggest doing some googling around if anyone is interested in a strut tower brace. Most guys are super happy with this unit in particular compared to rigid bars and consistently report a noticeable difference compared to a fixed bar for daily/spirited driving. I definitely noticed a difference, and I think it's the perfect part for a vehicle that will be on regular roads not just at the track. But, everyone has their own preferences and opinions! Here's a short synopsis: A solid bar restricts vertical movement of the towers which can increase the risk of hydroplaning and make uneven terrain pretty painful overall (i.e. pot holes, dirt roads, etc). The flexible piece Subaru added in the center of this one preserves the towers vertical movement while simultaneously keeping the towers together horizontally during turns. It comes down to the physics.
Based on that "FJ002" I think it's this PN: https://parts.subaru.com/p/Subaru__/STI-Flexible-Strut-Tower-Bar/60246396/E4010FJ002.html Looks legit, I'd try it out if I owned a new enough model.
