I have a '02 Impreza Outback Sport and the front end suspension is starting to see the end of its life. Anyone have any suggestions of some replacement struts to replace the OE parts? Should I also do the rear struts too even though they seem perfectly fine? Now for some stopping power on this beast. I was hoping to but some new rotors and pads on the front end while the wheels were off. I know that there are many fans of the Frozen Rotor/Hawk combo but I can not justify super high performance brakes on a '02 OBS. I am open to suggestions for daily driver rotors/pads. While I am asking for everyones input, does anyone know of a good garage to go to as well? Thanks.
Theres a ton of posts on this theres one about breaks like half way down the page. Look around for a bit do a little research.
How modified do you want to go on the suspension? You could do KYB GR-2 struts for inexpensive and they're a slight upgrade over the stock struts. There are any number of options you could do for springs, anything from keeping your stockers to WRX wagon takeoffs to SPT Pinks to Prodrives. Anything that'll work on a bugeye WRX wagon will work. I would recommend doing all 4, odds are the back ones are shot too. As far as brakes, the Hawk/Frozen Rotor combo isn't what I'd call a huge upgrade compared to many of the brake options out there, but if you're looking for something inexpensive you could always get a set of OE blanks from Brake and Equipment and take them to Diversified and have them cryo treated, or don't worry about it. If you didn't warp your stock brake rotors, you likely won't need the extra costs for cryotreating. A set of upgraded pads will help, what are you trying to improve? Feel or actual performance? You could always do stainless brake lines if you're just trying to improve feel. Otherwise, you can find a set of WRX front calipers and rotors secondhand, and find a set of H6 rear brackets and rotors as long as you're running 16in wheels. You should be able to find all of that for fairly cheap.
