Old, unused captive nuts are ftl..... After that fun I was able to get the front half of the rear crossmember in. Hmmmmm. What do I have here? Looks like an R180. When I get my axles this week, she'll be ready to go in. Hopefully it is a 3.90. When I get my axles I'll know for sure.
Any chance you still have control arms from the old car? I am in need of a drivers side control arm and Chux said I should ask you.
I didn't get much time to work on the car this weekend due to having to install a laminant floor in my mother's kitchen. I spared a little time though. I started working on the front core support where I found that the lower core support is taller than AWD cars. Weird. :dunno: Oh well, it makes a little more work out of it. Therefore it all needed to be cut apart so I can modify it. Also, I started my jog in the center support. It might still need to come up a hair. Everything will be boxed-in and reinforced to be as strong, if not stronger than the original. Why am I going through all of this? I want to fit a decent sized intercooler in there and maintain some semblance of a bumper beam, which is also being modified extensively. Old in front of new
Its nothing to look at yet. I pulled some bent pieces of 16 GA. out of the scrap bin at work to put something together. Next time...
hey piddster, just wondering, but do u got any fenders that are in decent shape? i want to replace the rusty one i got on my 91 t-leg. lmk thanks
I sold the '93 fenders a long time ago, but it doesn't matter since '90-91 (pre-facelift design) fenders are not interchangeable with the '92-95 fenders.
No class tomorrow means I got to work on the car tonight. All I have to say is welding contaminated 18 GA. is the toughest welding I've ever done. Damn. That is the tentative IC mounting, ish. I need to weld brackets to the bottom of the IC, and some mounting brackets to the bottom of the core support. I had to buzz off the center support so I can move it up a RCH. I'm not close to done yet with this part...
If it were touching it, it would heatsoak. Metal on metal. Matt just thinks everyone is retarded.
What's sloppy? The welds? Half of them are covered in residue so you can't even see them. Lets see you so any sort of fab work or welding on 18 GA covered in paint and e-coat.:hsugh:
I suck at welding but im learning. sounds like you have a lot of excuses. Come see my car get tuned pal.
I get to trim a kitchen before I go to work tomorrow. You have a torque converter lock-up switch yet? It would be nice for tuning an auto.
you should get a hold of derek then he can hook me up with one, even if it throws a code it will make tuning & driving it easier.
You have wiring diagrams for your car? I could tell you what two wires. Or you could learn to read them and do it yourself. :rtfm:
Yeah, if can read a wiring diagram, you can do anything as far as wiring is concerned. Subaru Factory Service Manuals have about a ten page section explaining how to read the diagrams.
Thanks Carl. It's starting to take shape. I have a lot of welding to do still, and other adjustments.
Did some test fitting. The bumper cover fits great. Ran into a little issue withthe headlight though. I'll most likely cut them like I did with that junk headlight, and reseal them up with windsheild urethane.
That's the goal. Before final assembly, I'll finish painting the intercooler black. And I'll use an acid primer this time so it doesn't chip so damn easy.
I'll let you know. This stuff is kind of hard for two people to do. When I get my diff and make my axles, that'll be a different story.
Finished the bumper beam. And the foam. Like a percuset, and a couple vicodens, very nice. And then the pantys drop. Anyways, she's fitting together nicely. The beam still lines up up with the factory holes which is amazing givin the amount of pretension in the bumper beam and how far off it was before I welded it. She sucked back together nicely though. The foam wasn't a big deal either. The good ol Stanley 99 took care of it.
I'm shedding a tear for the consumption of miller high life. Ick What else do you plan to do for for suspension rigidity?
Lol, the High Life was after several Summit IPA's. Gotta slow it down some how. I already had a lower H-brace and the tower brace. Eventually I'll make my own triangle brace for the trunk. Aside from the added material under the fender, I'm going to double up the brace that goes under there too. I'm not buying some fancy aluminum brace that may or may not be stronger than the stock steel brace.
