Lee called me: The car isn't done yet, It sounds like The shop's PC crashed :emo: Lee said he going to take care of me and they will keep me posted. So I'm looking forward to it being done, everything is installed just needs a tune. All the Guys @ R S Motors are doing everthing they can to get it done but sometimes the technology will fight ya. I'll keep everyone posted as soon as it is done. Plus my wife is expecting ard 3rd child tommorw so Maybe I'll have a new baby and a new tuned car the same day :eek3: will see soon

I just gave Michael the news. I'm sure he'll update here soon. Ran into a couple of snags. We are currently looking for an actuator.

    ha ha  ^

    Thanks, I too have a VF39

    I just talked to Ron:

    A. The damn up pipe has a leak (video will follow of the leak) Ron has changed the up pipe back to the stock not catted pipe.

    B. The Actutator on the Turbo is shot so I need a new one
    (the lowest setting is 25psi)

    C. Can't tune it until the Actutor is replaced which is on order today thanks to Ron's hard work.

So maybe it will be done in the next day  or two :( Ron, Matt and Lee @ R S Motors have been a lot of help thanks Guys. They have been keeping me up to date + The car will be done soon and everyone looking at installing a 20G will know what to expect for numbers once I post mine, with a list of supporting mods so it will be easier to catch up with me :)

From the wording above, it sounds like it's too stiff so won't open below 25 PSI.

    The lowest is 25psi

    Correct ^ :)

    I don't want to run 25psi, I can't I'm using 92oct gas.

well, he won't be slow anylonger!!!

Michael, my car had trouble staying with in a reasonable psi range too, mine would spike and the ecu would pull timing, I'm thinking I migh have to call Justin and get a ewg and up-pipe.... I think my spring pressure is far to high. when I go and get it tuned it would be awesome if you were there, I also plan on ditching the e-85 and going to smaller (correctly sized injectors) and pump gas, e-85 is kind of a pain too much torque for stock 5speed on a boost spiky 20g.

yes, when its an external dump, definitely yes.

For ultimate sleeper pipe it back into the downpipe.

external wastegate uppipe from grimmspeed $329 w/dump tube 44mm v-band?

    Tell me more

    is it loud?

Does it help with boost spiking?

how much of a problem will boost spiking be with my current setup (stock up pipe)?

What is the best way to setup my car with the mods for all day rip-it-up fun? (Asuming money isn't a issue/ best parts avaiable (work is slow but I'm a perfectionist))

When the wastegate is bypassing the turbo, YES. Its dumping exhaust out into the atmosphere; assuming you don't have it plumbed back into the exhaust. Its more expensive to do (plumb back) but its alot nicer day to day I think. Its not really necessary, as it will only be loud when you're really on the gas, but its at least something to think about.

In addition to the uppipe, you'd need an external wastegate, which is also spendy. It will greatly help with spiking, and will also be able to generate more power.

That price is just for the pipe and dump, the wastegate would be 250-400

Yes is is loud ... typically

Yes it helps with boost spiking and overall boost control - Grimmspeed has a great video I will post if not beaten to it.

    1. wastegates what kind?

    Turbo smart, HKS, etc.....?

    2. What is the cost and who can plumb waste gate exhaust back to the muffler? does anyone have one I can hear that isn't Plumbed?

    3. Will the car need to be retuned?

Note a real question but is everthing: turbo,dp,up going to need to be pulled again (I assume yes)

    4. Is the DP from cobb going to work or should I go with a divorced dp?

5.What about the exhaust side of the turbo does it nee that opening part that the stock internal waste gate would open.

You buy a wastegate that fits your pipe set. Either a 38mm or 44mm. The 38mm runs about $250, and the 44mm is about $350. Search around for the best price.

A 20G doesn't require a 44mm, it is just easier to work with and does not need gaskets. People run 30r's with a 38mm.

Externally dumped wastegates on Subarus sound like you are farting through a straw, imo.

Agreed. I HATE the way they sound....sounds like a really bad exhaust leak (because that's basically what it is).

Actually, in the narrower portion of pipe, the pressure will be less due to a higher flow rate. Keyword: Bernoulli

Don't try confusing the subject with Italians. They're still trying to escape the stereotypes set by G'padre I-III.

Also, why do you fart through straws? Seems like the marginal utility trends toward zero very rapidly.

    1. Whichever that fits the uppipe (that is made for ewg)
    2. depends on who's doing the work
    3. Yes, if you got the tune before the ewg
    4. no need for divorced dp
    5. you will need to weld the wastegate flapper shut OR grab a bracket made to hold the flapper closed
