It happens. I'm nearing 30 and it is killing me to say it. Appetite for Destruction, excellent. I think I have the "Fear of a Black Planet" cassette lying around somewhere. And while we are on that subject I like alot of old mid 90's rap. Dr. Dre and Snoop and such. I dig some electronic stuff...I know it is shameful, but Tijuana bars had me liking Bad Boy Bill for a while <shame>. I think DJ Keoki's Disco Deathrace 2000 is still in my work car for long trips to Fairmont. Aegis is getting me to listen to my old KMFDM albums again, I think I had pretty much all of them at one point.
I really only listen to a handful of stuff now. cursive the mars volta atmosphere sage francis ratatat explosions in the sky bright eyes pixies
I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate most of the "new rap". All this Durdy Souf Soulja Boy, Mike Jones rubbish is fugging horrific. Beyond local hip hop ninjas Sluggo and Brother Ali I *do* like Kanye West (as truly obnoxious as he can be), NAS, Jigga Man, Common, Eminem, Dre, Snoop, NERD, etc. Good beats and thoughtful lyrics make it for me. "...I like skull but prefer intercourse..." nonsense should DIAF musically (as much as it makes sense practically). "Old" NIN is quite delicious. Pretty Hater Masheen and the Closer track remain favorites to this day. Also, who doesn't like Hootie?
"dropping plates" comes from jamaican slang of the 60's era. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubplate As for atmosphere, if i hear another emo rap headphone song about how a girl doesn't like me from them they are entirely written of permanently. Slug is not who he used to be. ant is the man though. I say this with love, as i have known these guys since 1997 when we would play a lot of the same shows. but seriously, knock of the girls dont like me rap. IMO almost all modern rock is terrible, all hip hop since the late 90's sucks and things like nickelback are signs of a coming apocalypse. of course i listen to ultra lame "techno" music...
well not techno per se, but everyone calls all electronic music "techno" these days. yay for lumping in Cause 4 Concern and Pendulum with Haddaway and Benny Benassi.
Electronica is a very broad spectrum. I like electronica very much. I hate Techno, however. Techno is the stereotypical electronica that nearly everyone hates. ...Except for Ross Geller...
