Thanks guys, I'm pretty upset, had my hopes high and didn't think they'd total it. I saw her yesterday when I went to get my things.. RallyRacer- Is she okay? Seatbelt? I'm so happy nothing happened to Fobia.
Ok seriously, WTF takes a photo of their girlfriend getting stretched to the air ambulance after causing the damage? ....last thing on my mind would be taking pictures of it for the forum.
Eww, I think I see some blood on the center console. That teg musta smacked the big bale of hay pretty damn hard - the thing went waay down hill. I agree with the swap too, as usual, but only if the motor is still good enough to swap. Otherwise there'd be no reason to. Did they tell you details on the under-the-hood stuff? If the motor/tranny is good, a full drivetrain + interior swap could make a white GF wagon extremely sweet. But it'd be A LOT of work for sure, as in project car status for months.
Swap would take forever, honestly I would rather rebuild out of how much love I have for it but that's me day dreaming. I know swap would probably be better even though it's take awhile. I don't think there's too much wrong with the motor, but I'm not one to say since I could get a good look but I'll be posting pics. Whatever it turns out to be either way it's going to take some time..
Under the Car and hood: I couldn't really get the best pictures so you can't really tell if there's much wrong, but the oil filter and pan is still there.
From what I can see in those pics, the oil pan looks ok. Looks like your oil spill came from that filter - it looks like something caught it and ripped a hole in it, also ripping it off the oil cooler a bit. Hopefully only the oil filter itself is mangled and the cooler is still salvageable, but not sure. Tranny drain plug is still there too. Maybe the tranny fluid came pouring out the tranny dipstick hole up top when the car rolled? From the looks of it, that drivetrain is still very salvageable, so long as the fire didn't damage too much of the plastic stuff up top, and hopefully your timing belt didn't skip any teeth or anything from the impact.
I think the part of the sign in the ground punctured the oil filter. The tranny fluid came out from the dip stick falling out when the car tipped.
Bee, if you want me to come take a look at the car i can as well, i have spent alot of time around the body shop, let me know... me and nick could take a look too and see what all would need to be done.
Thank you but the body really doesn't bug me right now , all I want to know is if the frame is okay, and somehow get a good look at where the fire was and what is damaged there. I will find out once they fax all the information to us.
yeah, like i have said before, it looks like it would come down to the roof supported areas and A pillar
I took a look at the car and I could no see any place on the top of the engine that was hurt by a fire. I tried my hardest to find something and without taking things apart I'd say its fine. Also the body doesn't look too bad in person. There is alot of damage but it looks like all damage that can be fixed with replacing panels. Sorry for your loss Bee but just five me a call and I'll get that thing rollin for ya!
Swaaaap! If you really have a complete undamaged drivetrain, wiring, interior, etc. a swap wouldn't be that hard. The most difficult part of those things is obtaining all the parts. You just have to add up whether its worth it financially.
I agree with mike it wouldnt be that hard you just have to get the money thing taken care of first...
I don't get why people are suprised this car got totalled. Before the car was crashed, it was probably worth $11-12k tops. 80% of that would be about $9k in damages. Bodywork, paint and OEM parts @ retail pricing can add up quick.
it wont take as long as you think. get chux to do the wiring for you. get a white GF or similar. buy back the wagon, and in less than 1 month you will have a ready to go swapped GF. The mechanical stuff is easy as pie and I am sure that many people on here would pitch in to help get it done quickly. when Bikerboy and LegacyPGT both did the swaps the largest time issue they ran into was the wiring. if someone (chux for instance) does this the actual swap time could be as low as 1 week. Also having the whole parts car there will make things go smoothly (unlike justins car).
Oh yeah, don't be suprised if the buyback price from the ins. co. is something like $5k. When my GSR was stolen, the buyback on that was something like $3-4k and the car was in much better shape than yours.
Insurance companies are not here to be nice, they're here to make as much money as possible. Don't be surprised when they want $5000 for your car back.
Book is about 11, so that's probably where I'd be at. Not in a huge rush to sell it, just reached the point where it's just a car to me, and I want something a little better suited for our family. Getting old, I guess Plus, I have my SE-R to keep me happy
how did the taking apart go? if the mechanical is all still good. 2800 is a good deal for the entire parts car (swap donor). just think of it as a heart transplant. you are taking the soul of the white wagon to give an older GF a new start. seriously though if your gonna swap, I say buy it back, i highly doubt you will be able to find a parts car w/ good mechanicals for cheaper. also you get all sorts of goodies too (wheels/pink brakes/wrx interior/RSB/ect...)
you could take what you want from it and part it out and get your money back...or...buy it back, rip out all the wiring and put it in a GF like mine as so many others have said... or better yet, just fix it
sweet. if you need a place to get body work done, my friends shop does high quality work. let me know if you are interested I can PM you the info.
I got the estimates on everything and what they would have to fix... Bumpers Hood and Hood Scoop Right fender panel Sub Frame Steering return pipe Steering pressure pipe Engine oil pan Windshield Right and left Rocker moulding Antenna L florr support Right rear door Roof Drip moulding L rear combination lamp assembly Along with paint engine flush, oil change/filter, alighnment all that stuff... Everything is about 4,000. Labor is 5,000. I'm not buying it back.
Those prices seem really high to me. And I sell LEXUS parts. Is the part pricing with MNSubaru discounts?
no that isn't with the discount, either way it doesn't matter, I'm not going to fix or swap it.I can take anything that I can replace with stock parts. I didn't add anything to the car either so just going to take my BOV, HIDs, and deck. The tires are going to stay, unless throw on it. I rather keep my stock ones that I just painted gold and got new tires for. If anyone has anything that's broken and wants me to switch it out let me know.
