Everyone here who keeps on saying "it's just 80's music how is that NWS?" are either students who've never worked anything remotely similar to a real job or have a pretty awesome job with pretty awesome co-workers.

But over here in the real world, I (and most others at work) keep my volume on mute and monitor turned away from the general view of public. And yes, I don't click on links that looks suspicious, but also quit posting on a lot of forums that I used to because they have too much NWS material posted every day. I became such an active member here in the last couple years because it was a much safer place to surf. Personally, I'm glad the mods are starting to take actions to return us back to that.

And to all the people who argue, "don't be a retard, it's your responsibility to not click on suspicious links." That's true and I completely agree with you... it just means that mnsubaru gets crossed off my list of places to surf at work. No hard feelings, it is what it is. But I think that's the point russ and everyone else is trying to make.

 

1. evan more than likely knew he'd get banned and just did it for the attention that would come with getting banned(which you people are definitely giving him)

2. i'm not able to frequent this site as much as i used to due to work, but i have also noticed that the OT:SUBARU ratio has become really whack.

3. the mods are doing their job...please dont yell at them. i never saw the thread/link but i'm sure it was another one of evan's useless posts.

4. the argument shouldnt be about "people shouldnt click on the links then if they are at work"....its a dang subaru forum, not a pron forum. an option for us here may be to adopt a paying NSW section like rs25.com does. we are a vendor on rs25 so i get to see the premium section and its just random stuff like this. might be a good idea to consider here as it seems to keep that crap off of the regular forums on rs25 but still makes the crap throwers happy.

 

i do totally understand and appreciate the fact that we have mods that partol the site because without you we wouldnt even have a functioning website to surf but i have no idea why there would even be an Off Topic area if we couldnt post totally off topic stuff every now an then. the threads for anything car related would seem more at home in any of the other forums on here anyways. If evans post was really intended to be that annoying then i can sympathize with the mods decision to ban him. but to call off anything even slightly childish wouldnt be that much fun. If his link had been posted in the general section of the site it would have been a way bigger deal.

for people with great "real world" jobs who dont want to get fired i dont see any reason why if we kept all the poop theads in the Off topic area because it would keep some saftey for people at work. they wouldnt need to venture into the unknown and stay in the on topic areas. thats why i dont get what all the fuss was about. if your really here to talk about cars and subaru, why would searching the Off topic area be a good idea? i dont even make these totally pointless threads like evan did but if i had clicked on his i would have had a good laugh. it was in the off topic thread.... and it was most deff off topic haha.

 

Well, I think the point is that if this is the kind of place where you consistently come across NWS content, this is going to be a website to avoid while at work.

And I don't know how most people use the boards, but I hit the "new posts" button at the top and usually just refresh every so often. I don't really browse by forum. Sure, I take a glance to see which forum it's in before clicking through, but the point is that if I can't casually browse mnsubaru for a little break at work without worrying about getting fired and loosing my house, I'll probably spend my time elsewhere.

I think that some (a couple) of the avatars around here bend the NSFW rules a bit, but I am not complaining, as I have seen what complaining to a mod gets me (the people still have them, and I had to ignore one of the users while I was at work so I didn't run the risk of getting into trouble) i donno. This thread has surved it's purpose. Everyone has had their say.

The theme of this thread has been covered ad nauseum on the local mountain bike forum I've frequented for years. 11 times out of 10 times (yes, it has been turned to 11) the alleged "issues"/"concerns" prove to be nothing more than certain people with admin rights allowing their opinions/fears to materialize as eFacts.

I think that is because of the general climate that whenever anything is even slightly moderated here we get an unholy fury of self righteousness for oh, about 5% of the totla membership of the site, who enjoy using their self obsessed pseudo outrage to belabor every last act of moderation.

I mean look at this, one guy gets a one week ban for something that has resulted in permanent bans on many other forums with the same rules as ours, and we get memorial threads like the guy was murdered, self righteous idiocy and a wave of whining like we had personally violated the human rights of every person on the internet.

If anyone can moderate a bunch of sanctimonious crybabies who have paper thin skin for more than a month without just giving up on them I give them my personal thanks.

This is not pointed a one person in particular. I have heard this from many people now. I am getting sick of hearing "lighten up its the interweb".

You may think it is just the internet but you are wrong that this is only the internet. Yes it is posted here on the internet but this is also a community.... or at least that is what a LOT of people here have been working towards for a long time (way before I came here). We do see each other, have events, and gatherings and need to get along, or at least try. If some people want to keep this attitude that this is just the internet and it does not matter than leave and go somewhere else with the trolling and BS. Curious as to what this "community" or other alternate universe/idealistic utopia is that continues to be referenced. I've met many (most?) of the people that frequent this site and there seems to be a fundamental disconnect between how people interact in person and via the web.

Certainly, there are a few douchebags (handraiser, for argument's sake) but the vast majority of the people - yes, including mods - that I've met through MNSubaru, ESPECIALLY the allegedly childish/immature ones, are very cool and fun to be around in person. In fact, it's these very savages who are almost universally the most knowledgeable, helpful and accessible Subaru enthusiasts. It is the folks trying to turn this place into Sunday School that have the issues.

If a certain subset of members are hell bent on defining good taste why not just get rid of the OT forum altogether? Porn and personal attacks aside, there is no in-between in OT forums - on any site. There are clearly just as many, if not more, users that are mature enough to accept the sophomoric humor for what it is - blowing off steam, busting balls, etc. - than the opposing viewpoint. If the site's approach to handling such matters is not representative of the constituents' positions then how is this not more akin to fascism than a democracy?

Finally, and this is not subject to negotiation or interpretation, it is a known fact THIS IS JUST THE INTERNET. The platitudes and Foxs News-esque sound bites such as "...moving the club forward..." are spurious at best. WTF does that even mean? Comments of that ilk come from the type of person that volunteers to be the condo association president so that he/she can tell people how to prune their shrubbery.
