how much tq? you would probably have me with all that torque especially since i pulled some gear out of it today..
So what dont you like about the FZ? We were at MotoPrimo a week or so ago and sat on some bikes and the FZ seemed really nice and comfy to me. I've also tossed around the idea of getting a SM bike, so im not sure whats exactly going to happen yet. The Z is a nice bike, just not for me though. I like the speed triple but I cant get over that dual headlight look I like the idea of a front fearing and shield for the longer trips (did about 375 miles this weekend and im still sore today from the cramped position).
#1 being the style, half fairings dont do it for me, full or nothing, It looks like someone crashed an R1 and home made some other crap and slapped it all over it. #2 the cramped riding position, it forces you to smash your nuts up against the tank, yes your back is upright, but its not worth sacrificing my boys. #3 the gauges, worst and ugliest gauges of all time, Looks like they came right out of a cavalier.
Yeah im kind of tossed on the looks as well, sometimes I really like and sometimes not as much. You can always do the naked FZ1 like this: See now, my boys get super smashed on the R6 because of the tank design Yamaha uses on the bikes but I didnt get that feeling when I was on the FZ. You have to remember, im 6' so when I sat on the FZ it was sitting pretty much straight and my junk was about 2" back from the tank. This is a huge issue with me and the R6 now because im constantly trying to scoot back to releave my jewels. As for the gauges, are you refering the the gen 1 FZ? They look like this; And agreed, completly FUGLY and looks like a low end Chevy cluster. Anything after 06 looks like this: Which is what Triumph gauges looks like and I REALLY like those. Like I said I have a lot of time to decide, but I also think every person has different comfert levels on different bikes. I just hope my next bike I can keep longer than one year without getting sick of it or finding out it just doesnt fit me
Thats the cluster I hate, its just sooooooooooo blah. The fully naked FZs are a huge difference in hotness though Even more so with the retro scheme. My next bike is a zx14, they are fairly comfortable and are capible of warp speed, I just have to convince crystal that she would be more comfortable on one
I just couldnt do a one lunger on the street, It would have to be a v twin at least. Have you sat on any KTMs? they look fantastic untill you get up close and look at the plastics they use, it looks like they share the same compounds as legos.
Yup, it has an assload more powers, but it loses it somewhere because every comparo ive read it posts lesser times and whatnot compared to my z, I think its because it makes all its power way up in space and only for a couple thousand RPM. Where my bike makes power everywhere.
All the bikes makes pretty much the same power everywhere until about 8k rpm, then some start to fall. I have a hard time believing a liter bike only makes 108hp, my R6 makes more than that.
Its a de-tuned and bored zx-9 motor, its kind of old technology. its all about the torque, makes something like 78 or something ft lbs, feels like it could rip your arms out of the sockets.
I cant disagree with you: Hard part is finding a used one. I like it a little better with the fly screen:
It definatly needs the screen. It would look worlds better with a different headlight setup, I'm really partial to the dual headlight setup on the buells.

True, its really gonna hafta grow on me to spend that much money. I think Ide just take a regular old 14, they have a pretty comfy riding position.
There's a green speed triple that comes to Bob's Java Hut from time to time. Absolutely love it! That place is ****ing awesome for seeing kick-ass bikes, and it's just a few blocks northeast of me.
No dyno, but it was tuned by the previous owner. I purchased the bike with 2K miles on it. The previous owner bought to track and removed all the blinkers and added the rest of the mods. I added some flush mounts to it and blinks in the tail-light. About 9K miles on it now. Being 35, I'm not as crazy as I used to be. I've had it up to 165MPH once and I don't go over 140MPH too often. Most of my riding is done in the back roads of WI and some Welch runs (new pavement WOOT) It's all about the twisties. I'll pop the front wheel up from time to time, but I tend not to ride wheelies anymore. I tend to ride with other riders that also want to live to old age. I've been riding some form of two-wheeled cycle since I was 6. That's 29 year of experience. =) I'm apparently cursed too.. I've had 3 people go down behind me on 4 seperate occassions. All in the last 3 years. I'm fairly sure they go down because they were watching me and not the road. I tend to turn late and sharp when I'm being lazy. =) My normal riding buddies: 08 duc 848 06 650SV Suzie 500 And various. I'm thinking about another Buell when I'm ready for my next bike...something used so I can mod and beat on wihtout worrying about it. =) More than I intended on writing, I guess I love cycles!! CW
While surfing a motorcycle forum I frequent, I came across this post today and had to chuckle. I think this guy and I are brothers! Check it:
He doesn't own the SV, that's a friend of his (at least that's what his post is saying). SV's are quite sweet though!
Down low yes, but the upper end was mapped fairly well from power commander. I knew it was running lean down low, and dyno verified this. It's nice to know that the bike is running perfect all around now.
