Looking to sell my Z1000, if anyone is interested LMK. I have to pay in this year, screw you uncle sam.
Just found this thread. Here is what tooling around on last summer. Suzuki GS450. I picked up a Honda CB650 that I'm working on turning into more of a cafe racer style.
First bike-I havent ridden since college (20+ years). I want to ride again. I would want to start out on something pretty tame as my adult daughter would also 'share" the bike. I am seriously considering a Ninja 500. Other viable alternatives? The Ninja 250 just feels too small (I'm 6'1 200 lbs) thanks
The SV650 is a good all-rounder for most riders, that's true. Or, you could grab yourself a Hayabusa if you're into Suzuki's. They have a switch on the bike that helps limit the power for 3 different settings so you could turn the knob to 1 for when your daughter is riding and 2 for you when you take it out. It's basically the perfect beginner bike because you can just "turn it up" as your riding style improves.
Had a '99 SV650, almost track ready, just needed to upgrade the suspension and then I ended up totaling it. Great bike and I miss it! I was lucky that I didn't total myself in that crash too though. I still ride but haven't had the money to pick up another bike of my own yet. Currently looking for a early/mid 70s Honda CB750 Supersport(or similar)... unrestored. I'm looking to do the restoration work.
I have a 2010 ninja 250 and I love every minute of riding it. The handling is really good in corners yea it's slower then most bikes but is good enough for me. My buddy rode it He's 6'0 250 he says it's comfy but to slow since he's has a gsxr 750
Love the cafe style on your KZ. I need to send you pics of my XS60 as I get started on it this summer
Here's a pic of how it sits. I can't wait to rock the backrest (It slides all the way forward) and highway pegs
Those are the best, however you might want to look into getting a newer motor, one that is CDI, as these have points problems, and when they get wet they run on one or no cylinders. I recall many times my dad walking the bike home in the pouring rain, (until he put a CDI motor in it)
It's a 1980, so I believe it already has it in there. If I end up having problems with ignition, I'm planning on just getting a Pamco and set-it-and-forget-it.
Anyone been doing any riding? I should be getting my rearsets/pegs back from powder keg any day now, looking forward to at least having the option to ride.
had my Ducati out a couple weeks ago. sure feels good to get out in the wind again. maybe will be able to get out again this weekend.
SV-650 or FZ-6 (currently have an '06). Both are decently powered, and sized right, plus your not completely bent over the bike while riding. I'm 6', 225 myself and know what it feels like to be on a little bike. I think my Buell Blast was about the same size as me.
I've been riding a lot these last couple weeks. Feels great! Just got Tonie's Honda Spree up and running too, so we can cruise the hood together.
Been studying my manuel. Ready to go get my permit. I feel really comfortable on the GS 500...could be a winner.
A GS 500 would be a great first bike. My neighbor started on one and is still loving it 3 years later.
I took Jills Ducati for spin to the end of the block last Thursday to make sure it was running and charging ok. Then I laid it down on the way back to the house. I can post pics of the carnage if anyone is interested in the gore. Short story: Tires were cold on an uneven surface and I stabbed the brake just a little to hard coming back to the house. Went down at 30mph with no gear and no helmet. Broke the mirror, shift lever, and rear cowl, bent the bars, and the transmission seems to be locked in gear. I didn't break anything, but I have rash on both hands, my left knee, left foot, both ankles, and gashed my elbow and chin open. I got 5 stiches and lost two teeth. Moral of story: If the kickstand goes up, put your lid on. I knew better but didn't follow my own advice and look where it got me. The one time I don't suit up, the universe takes an opportunity to (literally) kick my teeth in.
So what you're saying is that your "looks" have improved!? Glad that you survived buddy! Did Jill kick your ass when you got home with her bike? Are you really going to let Casey drive that thing? I went through the bike phase for a brief moment, nearly layed it down...went back to getting my frills from my car. lol
Lol, no. She saw that the street took care of that for her. Sadly, the Duc was claimed a total loss and we let it go. She's back in the market for something new.
Well i'm glad that you survived your ordeal mang. Next time you decide to go out in colder temps, put yo lid on! This world would be a lot less enjoyable without our ass clown...i mean class clown.
Congrats! It's nice having the option to ride. Now if the overnight temps would warm up a bit that would be swell.
