I still think it would be fun to do a cruise down to the rally, but that would probably cut down the numbers. I cant do Saturday and probably cant do the following weekend.
cruise down to the rally would be aweomse...people can get free ride alongs as long as your wearing an approved helmet.
I'm making the executive call. We're going to push one more week due to rally-x. We're going to do Keys Cafe. I'd like to know if people are up for a little bit longer cruise this time. Maybe 1.5 hours or so? I'm going to assume "yes" if I don't get a negative response, so speak up if you're not interested.
You guys have until 5:00pm tomorrow to put your two cents in on a longer cruise. Otherwise we're doing it, details will be up by Friday.
Longer would be fine with me...as long as they are fun roads! I'm assuming were planning for this Sunday, 4/22?
Cruise up to the Rum River Inn in St.Francis! Worlds best Long Island Iced Tea's! That would be an hour cruise for most of you city dwellers. There are some fun roads up here.
This will happen at some point... There is a great road just north of CR 20 off seventh I plan on taking them down one cruise... just have to hit the right theme.
The Rum used to have really good food, but now they only have good Long Islands. We could do a sh*t food good liquer cruise! LOL
we were to start with bloody's because tea may make driving home a bit difficult <-- long island tea... followed by <-- followed by <-- followed by a trip to county and an impound fee
I have the route more or less locked down. I'm going to give it a dry run tomorrow to make sure everything is the way I remember it. It will about an hour and a half cruise beginning at Lamar Park in Cottage Grove, snaking up the St. Croix River valley to Marine on the St. Croix, then hook down to Keys Cafe in White Bear Lake. Here is Lamar Park: http://g.co/maps/byrvx Here is Keys Cafe White Bear Lake: http://g.co/maps/ygs7w Keys closes at 2pm on Sunday and gets a pretty strong church rush. So we'll be leaving earlier than usual. Departure will be 10:15am. I asked if they thought they could handle a party of 20 or so and they said they should be able to handle it. I need to know how many people plan on showing up so I can call it in. This isn't one where we can just show up and mob the place and expect to get in...
As of right now there are only 4-5 hand raisers. Not enough for reservations. If I don't have at least 10 by this evening we're going to roll the dice. If you don't say you want in and show up anyway, you may have to find somewhere else to eat. Fair warning. I'm thinking about setting a halfway point in Stillwater if people want to opt for a "half cruise". If that's something you guys want to do then I'll have to bump the departure time up a little bit for the first leg to account for layover time.
Well I'm still planning on making it...for future reference, some more advanced planning would help for a larger turnout. I know we had some scheduling conflicts, but setting a date farther in advance and having plans prior to the day before would be helpful ;-) I'm probably telling you things you already know, just my $.02
Today! Looks like it's going to be a small group with only a few for the cruise. Those coming out to cruise... bring a radio if you have it. I intend to take full advantage of having a smaller group... I'm planning a 15 minute stop on the outer edge of downtown Stillwater between 11:00-11:15 if anyone would like to take northern part of the cruise, which I found to be quite nice during pre-run. It's bang-on halfway so the northern portion is about a 45 minute tour, leaving us with a destination time of around 12:00 at Keys Cafe in White Bear Lake. The Stillwater layover will be in the now-defunct Zephyr parking lot right off Main Street on the northern edge of downtown: http://g.co/maps/qpyhe I pre-ran most of the route last night with a few guys and I really, REALLY like this route. Due to the low response (which is partly my fault, I know), I will probably reuse this one again in the future for something more people can get to. The dudes I ran it with are all now keenly interested in both Subaru's and road rallying. If anyone wants the full route, please shoot me a PM.
sorry I didnt make it, was feeling super crappy this am and went back to bed..finally got up around 1pm.
Finally got home. Awesome cruise! Dry, slightly overcast but bright, quiet twisty roads... and lots of crispy extra thick cut bacon! I have another destination up around that area for the bloody theme where I think we'll use that route again with a few small tweaks. Good times.
Hopefully Jordan posts up the pic of Mt. Bacon. Had two order two plates of bacon to kick this muddah off right!! Mmmmm...maybe i'll go back for dinner.
You speaks tha truth mah friend! I guess it was more like a bacon foothill than mountain...but delicious either way! Looking forward to the next one.
I have a couple in mind for this one. I'm still chasing down as many spots as I can that work with either Fischer Farms or Nueske's bacon. Nueske's is the gold standard. I KNOW lots of places use it but the only one's I have confirmed for sure are Chambers/Di'Amico in the cities and Barker's in Hudson. I'm not interested in either the price or the logistics of shoehorning a bunch of imports into Chambers or D'Amico Kitchen. Fischer Farms opens it up a little more. If only the freshly christened "bacon wagon" trolling around St. Paul was reliably operating on Sundays, or in one place for that matter...
The Bacon Wagon? The thought crossed my mind. But I can't have 4 cars show up... Are you guys willing to commit to a Sunday afternoon if I can swing it?
Oh, while I'm at it... Dean and I talked it over and we're going to skip the June cruise. The first weekend is historically when the entire planet either graduates or gets married. LAX is on the second weekend, and I may be in Redmond for the rest of it. I'm still pulling for a July/August cruise but June just doesn't make any sense.
