Here are the three options for the last bacon cruise, in order of level of commitment I think will be necessary to make it work out with the owners: **Note this will be on either the 20th or 19th this month depending on venue due to Mother's Day*** 1. Kinsen Noodles: I mentioned these guys earlier. It has come to my attention that they make a keen tonkotsu shoyu ramen. What's that? You question my choice of ramen noodles for a last chance at epic bacon infused shenanigans for the MNS crew? That doesn't make any sense? Well... to you good sirs (and Emily), I say: That isn't ham folks... If we can make a solid commitment I will approach the executive chef and ask him if he'd be willing to put something together for us revolving around tonkotsu. I will not pursue this option unless there is a strong response. 2. Bacon Trolley: I thought it was called the bacon wagon, but it's really the bacon trolley. As best I can tell availability and location for any given day is a matter of luck. I think they'll be worth the effort though. If there is either a strong preference for bacon trolley, or a weak response to Kinsen but with decent buy-in, I'll try to nail them down. Pork belly, for serious: Pork Belly Bahn Mi Bacon Tacos and Bacon Popcorn: Chances are we'd move it to later in the afternoon, or switch to Saturday. 3. Barkers in Hudson: It's just a bar. A bar that serves Nueske's bacon, the A+++ gold standard in hoity-toity pork products. The food is good, the parking is annoying, and reservations are easy to deal with. This is the cop-out option and will be our final bacon-themed destination if there is a weak response. Cruise routes are up in the air. I'll worry about putting together entertaining routes once I know where we're going. Soooo... who wants to do what?
Quick sidenote: NONE of the options are going to involve an early Sunday morning cruise. I learned my lesson...
yes lets go there!!!!! I am all for it! as long as its on a sunday. Parking might suck just a little for most people but its worth it but I am bias as I would just walk there pre party at my place I will cook up bacon..haha jk.
there's a huge lot behind Kinsen/Bar Abiline and we'd still be doing it on an Sunday. It shouldn't be TOO bad. Right now it's looking like Barkers.
Isn't that a pay lot? I'd be cool with barker's but I suspect its distance is going to cause people to shy away
Yup. I wouldn't be surprised if wherever have to park in st paul is a pay lot either. As of now there are a grand total of three people interested. Whatever is making them shy away from all three options... it isn't the distance.
When is this? Some clarity on date would be helpful. I vote for bacon trolley... because there's no way you're talking a Japanese man into overpaying for a bowl of frozen noodles that he could make for half as much and twice as delicious at home from scratch. Also, run on sentence.
No, we aren't retards. Well maybe, but that doesn't... nevermind. Like we said on the last page, we're targeting the 20th this month. It may be the 19th depending on venue. Also, Idget, Tony does not f around with his food. It IS "uptown [over]priced", to be sure. It's not the usual crap though. I'm kind of pulling for the Bacon Trolley myself just for the lulz. In hindsight this probably isn't the right group to try and organize a chef's table for. Different vibe.
If i am back from Brainerd early enough on Sunday the 20th, and we do the Bacon Trolley(for the lullz), i am in like flynn.
I'm in tentatively, depending on the day/time. Again, is there was some more planning in advance, I think we would have a larger turn out. Let us know what is decided!
What are you looking for in terms of "more planning"? I've been asking for input for almost two weeks and we're still a week out on a monthly event. I'll ask the Bacon Trolley folks if they can tell me where they're going to be. I can't ask them for any favors given the response so far. It's probably going to be Barkers. If the only way this is going to work going forward is I have to choose all the spots myself and we can't go anywhere that requires reservations, I can do that.
I think you'll get the best results if you just pick them all after the vote is done. Then people can plan ahead. But then if people don't show up it means you picked bad spots, lol. I just don't think it's possible to make everyone happy and the later and later you decide, the less people that can come. I've only made it to two and that's largely because I can't figure out where it is unless I follow this thread like a hawk. I'm also kind of a pain in that I like parking. If it doesn't have a nice big, free parking lot, I'll skip it. That's just me though. Can't make everyone happy. Certainly don't plan around me. Just thought I'd let you know.
Yep, this is what I mean - I try to keep track of this thread, but I'm guessing a lot of people don't check it daily or even weekly. If we were to set a date and a location a month in advance (and keep the first post updated), I think we'll have a better turnout. We had a lot of notice for the first one or two, and we had awesome turnouts...its now Monday and have no clue for this weekend. Just my $.02. Here nor there, I'm going to try to make it out this weekend!
Third party vote ='s a strategic mess. Vote for a standard party things get planed and the budget gets passed early in the session... IMHO again I'm in for the trolley but not sure I would attend either of the other two places.
Yes. We'll see how it goes with Bacon Trolley, otherwise it's going to be alphabet roads and barkers.
Alright, I can do that. For this month: I have a dialog going with the Bacon Trolley folks. It's looking like rain all weekend. I'm going to see if they can shoot for NEXT weekend, 5/26 or 5/27. Since we're not having a June cruise I don't think it's a big deal if it's at the end of the month. edit: It just occurred to me that's Memorial Day weekend. It has to be this weekend or nothing. June is crazy.
This isn't going well, haha. This is why planning things sucks. You can't win, lol. Just do your best and see who shows up!
We are a go for Saturday! Our destination will be the St. Paul Farmer's market. Plan on a 11'ish departure time somewhere near St. Paul. I'm not going to go nuts on the cruise part this time around. One more time: DO WANT CAN HAZ BACON THIS SATURDAY AT THE ST PAUL FARMERS MARKET. DEPARTURE WILL BE FROM SOMEWHERE IN ST PAUL AROUND 11AM
I read the first post and nothing else. I recommend Pizza Luce Hopkins - big parking lot, bike trail, outdoor seating, Bludee Mary bar, GREAT food, et. al.
I'll be doing the shooting thing but I wish I would have known because the same route we took for the 5-8 club would have worked great.
I wish I would have known too. I learned my lesson about including members in the details of a decision making process. We won't have this issue again. If it's just me that's fine. That's how this started to begin with. If you don't know well enough to follow a fat man to a bacon shindig, that's your problem. Anyway, they can'd do Sunday and nobody except Emily has any interest in the other two options. Next weekend is Memorial Day weekend so that will also be a disaster. Then we're into June. So... I'm going to be at Mojo Monkey Donuts consuming a Maple Bacon Bar at 11am. Here is where you can find me if you're interested: Mojo Monkey Donuts 1169 7th St W, St Paul, MN http://g.co/maps/pnqw8 At 11am I will be leaving Mojo Monkey Donuts and heading for the St Paul Farmer's Market. I'm going up 7th, heading east (right) on Randolph, then northeast (left) on Shepard Rd, northwest (left) on Sibley and northeast (right) on East 5th. Like so: http://g.co/maps/v2f77 Hope to see some of you there. If not, I'm just in it for the bacon anyway. Also, one more reminder that we will NOT have a June cruise due to way too much going on already.
thanks for the offer though, have to wait till tuesday to show off the car i bought that is now being stolen away from me
