Yes, I agree. This is why my PC version of SH: Homecoming sucked so hard. They didn't care enough to fix the problems, just figured ... if it works on console, it works on PC. Also, fear 2, developed for the 360, when the original was developed for PC, and iirc, ran like total **** on the consoles. :\ so did all of the great old shooters ... half-life .. hl2 even, quake, doom .. haha anyone remember doom for SNES and how they had to downgrade the graphics on it to get it to run properly? Then doom 64 came out and that was a steaming pile too, but I played it anyway just to back myself up when I said it was a steaming pile
Oh god I can't wait for Diablo3. Any word on when that's coming out, Goalie? Wonder if its planned for PS or XBOX release....
Never got sent a new 360. Sent the old one back to me. As for games, Resident Evil 5, Dead Space, and Lost Planet are some of the best. RE5 has good co-op, too. Also, for arcade games, definitely try Castle Crashers and Braid. There's more on the arcade, but can't think of them atm.
If I can find it, there was a keyboard/mouse adapter unit for the XBox360. I'd almost find it hilarious to get that and grab a used copy of the OrangeBox and go kick the ever living crap out of 360 TF2 players. There are things you can do with certain classes that require the speed of mouse aiming to accomplish.
I tried one of these on the regular Xbox (still have it, too) made by SmartJoy and it didn't work so hot. Didn't know they had one for the 360. Anyone try one of these? Maybe I won't get my ass kicked so much by my console-only friends in COD4 or Halo 3 anymore... Just an FYI, but I'm an PC FPS vet. Played ALOT of null-modem original Doom, Doom 2, Quake 1 and 2, UT, Tribes 2, BF1942: DC, etc. These kids nowadays don't know the harshness of true virtual war!
okay, i read the thread and still need a bit of help. My 360 has been sitting apart for 5 months because of the one red ring....whatever it was. My X clamp was broken. How the hell do I fix it? RANT- Personally I feel I was screwed by microsoft. It broke once before, the three lights. Sent it in, they sent another one within two weeks and told me I had a three year warranty. What they didn't tell me was the warranty was only for THAT FIX...******* So when it broke this last time (less then a year after the 1st time) i called to get it warrantied and they explained the warranty was only for that other issue and it would cost me $100 to fix it!
Bring it to us, Myself or Steph can fix it no problem. If we need parts, we'll let you know. Just to verify, you have the 3 red LED ring of death right? If so, I give you 97% fix rate for this. The other 3% are probably just epic-****ed and need to be resoldered or something like that.
haha! I got a kick from this line. I do not think that PC gaming will ever die off. If you think about it the PC is a much better gaming platform than any console. Considering the ever evolving hardware for the PC, it is incredibly easy (even though some consolers are scared) to upgrade you stock box to run better games or the same games better. You are able to use what ever controller / control scheme you like and the classic keyboard and mouse combo is just lethal for RTS and FPS games. In 20 yrs the current consoles will be dust, but people will be still playing their favorite games on software emulators. just my .02
No, that's not right. Call them again, the warranty should still cover your second replacement or any replacement until the 3 years of your original purchase run out. the GameStop warranties are the ones that are BS and only cover your machine once. Do you have 3 red lights or just 1?
I think you're missing the point a little. It's not a matter of what's a better gaming platform, it what makes more money. The evolving hardware and the required constant updates and patches do scare people off that are not Pc savvy. It's a case where to you and me it's the platform's strength to most other people is it's biggest weakness. In 20 years, yes the current consoles will be ancient as a NES is now. By then we will probably have every game streamed straight to your cable box or cable card. The iPhone is showing that a download only platform can be successful. Think of all the revenue publishers and devs would get if there were no used games. Like I said PC gaming won't die off completely, but it certainly is shrinking very, very quickly.
I built my current pc platform specifically with gaming in mind, and then I quit gaming. WoW was such a damn time sink. I do have TF:2 loaded, but haven't spent any quality time with it. We own an xbox 360 and a wii. I much prefer the wii, as the xbox controllers require way too much coordination.
That and less face it, PC gaming costs money. A lot of money. I don't think anyone I game with on "clan" [w00t] has a rig that is <$1000 for everything. What's hard is a lot of us build our own rigs. So yeah, $100 here, $200 there, we think "bah, it's really not that expensive". But if I had nothing, no monitors, no case, ect, to build a great gaming rig would be a whole lot more then a ps3 or x360. That's where consoles will continue to thrive. You've got a gaming "rig" that will stay up to date for 3~4years before the next rig comes out. If I was a parent i'd much rather have little billy on a 360 and not f'ing up my computer.
I would say that the majority of PC gamers are not good enough to hang in that level of competition. Also, there are plenty of console gamers that are good on a PC.
let me clarify...1st issue that was warrantied was the three red lights. 2nd issue, the current one is the 1 red light..i think it's the E74 Error. They would NOT warranty it. Now becuase it took it apart I assumed I can't return it to Microsoft for the warranty, even if I could get them to cover the error.
They *should* still warranty it for the E74, but since the seal is broken they won't touch it now. the E74 is a bit tougher of a fix.
Dave, this site helps a lot. http://xbox-experts.com/e/index.php But it wont' help if you don't know how to get the secondary codes. the only way I know of to fix a cold solder joint is heat gun at low levels ... or baking the board in an oven. I would NOT recommend you do either of those things yourself. If you want, I can take a look at it. I'll at least get you all the error codes and point you in the right direction for fixing it if I can't fix it. On another note, I've completely given up on my 360's case, if i put the thing back in it, it will RROD again. It was on for about 3 hours, heat froze, and now is giving me the same damn error that I got before. So Jason found this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112196 It's not gonna be pretty, but it will be functional. And I don't have wireless controllers, or an urge to get a wireless headset (I like to put it down and get away from people once in a while) .. so this will work nicely I think
Steph and Dave, take your box down to the mplsgaming.com guy. He can fix any error at a very reasonable price. He's done a bunch of RROD and E74 fixes for people I know. He also warranties his work for I think like 3 months, he's also extremely fast, he can do it while you wait. It takes him about 10 minutes for a RROD fix and its like $40
Yup...that's it wat? We're talking about the same person. $40 for the red ring of death (RROD), $50 for the E74 error
woops, I guess we are not. Sorry, lol. Can you explain what the E74 error is please? I honestly do not understand it.
The E74 error has to do with A/V output and the ANA/HANA chip. The soldering on the chip is crappy and might need to be re-flowed. The RROD 3 rings fix is just an X bracket adjustment and strain relief from the chassis mount points on the motherboard.
Mine is getting fixed again. First it was the RROD for the graphics chip. Now its some southbridge thing, which I dont even understand. If this things fails on me again I'm just going to buy a new one, this is getting old.
^ cold solder joints ... I am not sure if that problem will go away ever, even in the new ones, because they are using lead-free solder. There is a big write-up on lead-free solder and how it corrodes when heated (since it expands) but it's a bunch of technical crap you probably don't wanna read ... but yes, that's what it is. Cold solder joint under the south bridge With a new one, they seemed to have solved some of the cooling issues, so you may not see this error as often.
My best guess is that he has a thought that his modified xbox can read games which were copied to a dvd-rom disk. Although I have a hard time believing that it actually works.
