I attempted to install a front strut tower bar today on my '04 WRX (yes, probably don't need it, but I got it cheap and I wanted to try it) and there's this weird thing mounted to my passenger strut top preventing me from installing the bar. What is this thing, and why is it mounted to my strut top?
Hmmm... okay. Don't really want to mess with the alarm. Has anyone on here successfully installed a front strut bar on a WRX with an alarm without drastic modification of the mount?
It's an extra (louder) horn that comes in the alarm kit. There is a plug in for it maybe a foot straight down from the mount on the strut tower. Disconnect the horn and put it in your closet like I did, then mount the strut bar ... problem solved. As for the shock sensor that is under your center console and you can adjust the sensitivity there also.
I have that problem when I install my strut bar too. What I did was put in the strut bar, screw on the bolt, then put that thing on top of the bolt then use another bolt to tighten back on it. Looks normal again. Works perfect for me.
