So I have a ball joint that needs replaced...I was thinking, as long as I'm down there, I was considering going with the STI control arms.
What else should I consider while I will have it apart? ALK? Bushings? A pallet of PB blast:rolleyes:
So far, the suspension is stock, put new gr-2 struts in last year...I know swaybars would give a better bang for the buck, but I am just thinking, If I have to wrench on the control arms anyway, why not upgrade that part...feel free to flame me on that.
It's a dd, I don't race, but drive spirited...would like a little better grip in the corners etc...

lulz...if purchased from dealer the the sti control arms come with the alk bushing installed....just an fyi. I'd personally go with bigger sway bars and new endlinks before going with a new control arm...unless your rear bushings are shot.

The only thing your saving with the STI arms is about 10 pounds of weight for both sides. They are the same shape and design, just made of alumninum. And everyone knows what happens with alumninum anything and curbs.

a torch and a rubber mallet.

Just get the outer tie rod end with the ball joint already pressed in from the dealership. You'll probably need a new cotter pin and possibly and new castle nut (neither come with the tie rod). Save your money for springs, sticky tires, or sway bars if you don't have those already.

...we literally taco'd our STI control arm. POS couldn't even handle a direct impact from a boulder at 40MPH....lol

One of the main reasons I was considering them is because of the less unsprung weight...hoping that would decrease the lumberwagonish feel somewhat...I know fixing the balljoint will help that tremendously already, but just a thought I had.
I've read up on them somewhat, and many claim that I wouldn't notice the difference...I'm guessing you guys are in that camp...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for caddyboat suspension, just thought it might offer a little improvement in both handling and NVH...
Keep the replies coming, even if they are chuckles at my newby thoughts/ideas...I do have a sense of humor...
